About
The Graduate Diploma in International Development is designed to provide you with advanced theoretical knowledge and professional capabilities for effective practice in the international development field.
You will gain practical insights into the nature of international development work and discover how theory and ideology shape international development as a field of professional practice and scholarship.You will have the knowledge and skills needed to analyse and engage with the complexities that emerge from the intersection of diversity in cultures and socio-political settings and apply approaches to development planning and policy.
You will be able to interpret issues, collaborate with others and contribute informed insights into future directions of development policy in a variety of levels in public and private spheres.
Through a combination of core and elective courses you will examine the uneven distribution of human wellbeing, social opportunity and economic wealth across the globe.
You may select up to two electives in development practice, giving you specialist skills and knowledge in areas including humanitarian assistance, gender, peace-building, sustainability, justice, human rights, communication, management and languages.The program provides the knowledge base for you to engage in further learning and life-long learning skills to enable you to confidently contribute to an industry that is fraught with complexity and dilemma.You are able to complete the program fully face to face, online or a blend of both modes.On completion of the program you will be able to work in professional roles in local community based organisations, international non-governmental organisations, networks, government agencies and multi-lateral bodies, like the United Nations.
You will have unique insights into the dynamics of change around the world, especially in the developing world and in struggling or marginalised communities in the developed world.

Entry requirements
The Graduate Diploma in International Development is available as an exit award only for the Master of International Development (MC211).

As a graduate of this program you will be able to:
- critically reflect on socio-cultural diversity and values, world systems and the benefits of local and global development practices for communities engaged in development processes
- determine and apply the specialist knowledge and technical skills required to creatively solve problems, demonstrating informed judgment and ethical responsibility in your professional practice in international development
- critically analyse, synthesize and reflect on personal awareness and lived experience, theories and practices of development, both local and international, to extend and challenge knowledge and practice in the discipline
- professionally communicate propositions, processes and outcomes relating to international development to address specialist and non-specialist audiences

- critically reflect on the causes and impacts of poverty in global contexts and to evaluate the theories and practice of development institutions
