About
The aim of the program is to provide writers and publishing professionals with specialised knowledge, high-level mentoring, critical thinking and globally transferable skills – producing flexible and confident graduates in both creative and professional writing practice and the publishing industry.
This program, which is strongly practice-led, industry-focused and international in orientation, has been designed to challenge and prepare you for the changing nature of the writing and publishing industries.The core of the program, the Bowen Street Press, is a real world, student-led publishing house that encompasses everything from digital and online through to print.
Through studio-based practice and a series of projects over your degree, reflecting your individual interests as writers of non-fiction, fiction or poetry and/or as editing and publishing professionals, you will work within the real-world structure of a 21st century publishing house.The program offers a capstone experience in both the practice-led Bowen Street Press studio and the research-focused Professional Research Project.
Both these experiences will enable you to synthesise and integrate your knowledge, connect theory and practice and demonstrate your holistic achievement of the program learning outcomes.
The program is offered on campus in face to face mode of delivery.On successful completion of the program, you will be a professional practitioner with specialised knowledge of the writing and publishing industry.
You will be able to analyse issues, work with others, communicate informed ideas and apply independent judgement to problems within a writing and publishing context.Graduates of this program can expect to work in professional and leadership roles, both local and international, in a broad range of areas such as writing and/or content curation for print and new media (games, apps, ebooks, zines and the net);
self-employment as writers and/or editors;
and traditional publishing such as books and magazines within the trade, educational and corporate sectors and other non-traditional boutique publishing areas.

Entry requirements
Entry Requirements
Successful completion of an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent overseas qualification) in any discipline with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (out of 4.0), or at least three years of professional experience in the creative writing, journalism, professional communication, public relations and/or editing and publishing area.

English language requirements
A minimum of IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 7, with no band less than 6.5, or equivalent. For equivalents to English entry requirements, see the English requirements web page.
Learning outcomes
As a graduate of this program you will be able to:
- Engage with the future directions of the writing and publishing industries through the application of your own entrepreneurial practice.
- Determine and apply the specialist knowledge and technical skills required to creatively solve problems, demonstrating expert judgment and ethical responsibility relating to your professional practice and discipline.
- Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on complex theories and recent developments, both local and international, to extend and challenge knowledge and practice in your field.
- Professionally communicate propositions, processes and outcomes to address specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Provide leadership within your discipline as well as collaborate with others.
- Use appropriate research methods to design and execute substantial projects, evaluate the outcomes and theorise about the contribution of your learning to the profession and knowledge area.
- Master a body of knowledge and specific technical skills to progress your professional career within the contemporary media and communication arena.
