A Master of Arts in Education is nationally and internationally recognised.
Upon graduation with a Master of Arts in Education from RMIT University in the School of Education you will have developed:high level skills in research processes, analysis and synthesis of knowledge related to specific investigative fields of education, and high level communication skills.A MA in education from the School of Education will provide you with a foundation for further studies into a PhD, the capability for employment in tertiary institutions, and senior leadership and management positions in a variety of education environments.At RMIT University you are able to undertake this MA in education by project or by traditional thesis.If you choose to undertake your MA by project, your final submission would involve the combination of an exegesis (thesis) and a product, for example a website, policy documents or curriculum resources.
Some key characteristics of this mode could include industry partnership, collaboration, research linked to action, positive change for the organisation and individual, and action learning/action research approaches within a project framework.Contact and discussion with the Deputy Head, Research and Innovation, will assist you in choosing your preferred mode of MA study.
Structure
Year One of Program - Full Time Students Only
In semester 1 of year 1 you are required to undertake a compulsory research methods course. The preferred courses for this program are OTED2098 (Face-to-Face delivery) or OTED1033 (fully online delivery). You will also enrol in Thesis A.
In semester 2 you will enrol in Thesis B and complete the First Review requirement by the end of the year at either the June or November Research Student conference.
Year 2 will follow the same structure. Semester 1 you will enrol in Thesis A and in semester 2 you will enrol in Thesis B and present a Second Review requirement at either the June or November Research Student conference.
Students are expected to complete two Progress Reports each year, one of which is a Work in Progress presentation at the June or November Research Students conferences.
Complete a Research Method/Strategy course in your first year. Please select Part A course in first semester and Part B course in second semester for each year of your program (Use "Change Semester" button above to switch semesters):

Entry requirements
As an applicant for the Master of Arts in Education you must have:
- Qualified for a first degree from RMIT with at least a credit average in the final undergraduate year; or
- Qualified for another recognised award deemed to be equivalent in character and standard to a first degree from RMIT with at least a credit average in the final undergraduate year; or
- Produced evidence of appropriate experience which satisfies the College/School that you have developed knowledge of the field of study sufficient to undertake the proposed program.
International onshore applicants will also be required to meet the following English Language Requirements:
- IELTS - 7.0+ (no band less than 6.5) OR
- TOEFL - Paper based = 600+ (TWE 5.0+) OR
- TOEFL - Computer based = 250+ (TWE 5.0+)

Learning outcomes
The Master of Arts in Education provides graduates with a broad application of knowledge and skills. According to the Australian Qualifications Framework (www.aqf.edu.au/) as a graduate of a Master of Arts in Education you will have:
- a body of knowledge that includes the understanding of recent developments in a discipline and/or area of professional practice
- advanced knowledge of research principles and methods applicable to the field of work or learning
- cognitive skills to demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and to reflect critically on theory and professional practice
- cognitive, technical and creative skills to investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories and to apply established theories to different bodies of knowledge or practice
- cognitive, technical and creative skills to generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at an abstract level
- cognitive and technical skills to design, use and evaluate research and research methods
- communication and technical skills to present a coherent and sustained argument and to disseminate research results to specialist and non-specialist audiences
- technical and communication skills to design, evaluate, implement, analyse, theorise and disseminate research that makes a contribution to knowledge
As a graduate of a Master of Arts in Education you will be able to demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills:
- with creativity and initiative in the application of knowledge and skills to new situations and/or for further learning,
- with high level personal autonomy and accountability,
- to plan and execute a substantial piece of research.
