In your first semester, you will be required to undertake 60 credit points, and then 48 credit points for each semester of the program thereafter.

Entry requirements
As an applicant for the Masters Degree by Research you must have: a. Qualified for a first degree from RMIT with at least a credit average in the final undergraduate year; or b. Qualified for another recognised award deemed to be equivalent in character and standard to a first degree from RMIT with at least a credit average in the final undergraduate year; or c. Produced evidence of appropriate experience which satisfies the College/School that you have developed knowledge of the field of study sufficient to undertake the proposed program. International onshore applicants will also be required to meet the following English Language Requirements: - IELTS – average of 7:0 across all four bands and no less than 6:5 in any one. These entrance requirements are the minimum academic standard you must meet in order to be eligible to apply for the program. Some research programs at RMIT also have extra requirements that may be requested from you as part of the selection process such as: - an interview - a test - and/or folio.
Learning outcomes
The Masters Degree by Research provides graduates with a broad application of knowledge and skills. According to the Australian Qualifications Framework (www.aqf.edu.au/) as a graduate of a Masters Degree by Research you will have: - a body of knowledge that includes the understanding of recent developments in a discipline and/or area of professional practice - advanced knowledge of research principles and methods applicable to the field of work or learning - cognitive skills to demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and to reflect critically on theory and professional practice - cognitive, technical and creative skills to investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories and to apply established theories to different bodies of knowledge or practice - cognitive, technical and creative skills to generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at an abstract level - cognitive and technical skills to design, use and evaluate research and research methods - communication and technical skills to present a coherent and sustained argument and to disseminate research results to specialist and non-specialist audiences - technical and communication skills to design, evaluate, implement, analyse, theorise and disseminate research that makes a contribution to knowledge As a graduate of a Masters Degree by Research you will be able to demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills: - with creativity and initiative in the application of knowledge and skills to new situations and/or for further learning - with high level personal autonomy and accountability - to plan and execute a substantial piece of research Further to the above the Master of Arts (Photography) at RMIT provides specific knowledge, skills and abilities and enables the mastery of knowledge skills and abilities in designing and implementing a research inquiry relevant to your area of study in Media and Photography.
