About
This nationally recognised Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety course aims to provide students with an understanding of the work health and safety (WHS) skills required to administer various work health and safety functions.
Students will learn to interpret WHS legislation in order to produce a legal framework, establish and maintain WHS quality systems, lead and induct WHS staff and contractors, respond to WHS incidents and claims and learn how to introduce environmentally sustainable practices to the workplace.

Structure
Blended and Online delivery
This WHS certificate course is made up of 10 units delivered in clusters. It varies depending on what units you will be studying and it is based on the mode that you have selected ie: blended or online.

Blended delivery
Students are required to complete the entire course through a blend of scheduled face-to-face workshops and online eLearning that are delivered through the Canvas, the Learning Management System. Each cluster requires the completion of assessment activities which need to be submitted by the due dates selected upon enrolment.
Online delivery
Students are required to complete the entire course through the Canvas e-Learning System. Each cluster requires the completion of assessment activities which need to be submitted by the submission dates selected upon enrolment.
Assessment
Students will be given 6 weeks to complete their assessment(s).
Assessor Guidance Session
Each module of the program embeds a personalised guidance session, tailored to the learner’s needs. This key checkpoint in the blended framework provides the opportunity to clarify understanding, ask questions and ensures learners are on track for successful course completion.
Workplace delivery
This course (or units from it) can be tailored to industry delivery within the workplace for groups of eight or more students. Students may enrol in the course at any stage during the year. Students have the chance to select from a range of dates for elective units to determine the duration of their course.
Learning outcomes
Individuals will learn the the skills and knowledge required to:
- assist with providing advice about the legislative duties, rights and obligations of individuals and parties prescribed in work health and safety (WHS) legislation.
- contribute to the processes of identifying work health and safety (WHS) hazards, assessing WHS risks, and developing, implementing and evaluating risk controls according to legislative and organisational requirements
- contribute to setting up, running and improving work health and safety (WHS) consultation and participation processes that are prescribed in legislation.
- contribute to the implementation and maintenance of a Work Health and Safety management system (WHSMS) as it applies to own work area and job role.
- lead teams and individuals by modelling high standards of conduct to reflect the organisation's standards and values.
- conduct individual and group instruction, demonstrate work skills and assess the success of training and one’s own training performance, using existing learning resources in a safe and comfortable learning environment.
- assist with the work health and safety (WHS) management of contractors with a strong focus on compliance with WHS organisational and legislative requirements
- assist with actions and activities performed in response to work health and safety (WHS) incidents which includes accidents.
- effectively analyse the workplace in relation to environmentally sustainable work practices and to implement improvements and monitor their effectiveness.
By completing this WHS certificate course, individuals will also learn the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to assist with the management of workers’ compensation claims, rehabilitation and return-to-work programs.
