About

This nationally recognised Diploma of Work Health and Ssafety course is suitable for people who coordinate and maintain the work health and safety (WHS) program in an organisation.

This course aims to provide you with the skills to manage WHS risk, manage WHS quality systems, investigate and report on WHS incidents and manage rehabilitation or return to work programs.

Unlike other training providers, at Swinburne Professional we believe in the holistic development of each person and therefore our qualifications have been structured to not only provide the technical skills required but also to develop the leadership and management capabilities of each person relevant to the level of study that they are engaged in.

Structure

The Diploma of WHS is delivered in workshop clusters. Clusters can be completed in any order.Both Face-to-face and Online participantsare to complete 10 Units of competency delivered across 4 Clusters.

Face-to-face delivery

Students attend a series of workshops where they will learn both technical and leadership and management skills.

The compulsory sessions run Monday to Friday from 9:00AM to 5.00PM, at the Hawthorn (Melbourne) campus.

Online delivery

Students are required to complete the entire course through the Canvas e-Learning System. Each cluster requires the completion of assessment activities which need to be submitted by the submission dates selected upon enrolment.

Workplace delivery

This course (or units from it) can be tailored to industry delivery within the workplace for groups of eight or more students. Students may enrol in the course at any stage during the year. Students have the chance to select from a range of dates for elective units to determine the duration of their course.

Assessment

Following the delivery of each cluster students will undertake assessment(s).Face to face students will be given 4 weeks to complete their assessment(s).Online students will be given 6 weeks to complete their assessment(s).

Learning outcomes

Though this WHS diploma course, you will learn the the WHS skills and knowledge required to:

  • contribute to the systematic management of work health and safety (WHS) risk
  • conduct work health and safety (WHS) risk management processes
  • facilitate the development and use of WHS risk management tools
  • contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of elements of a work health and safety management system (WHSMS).
  • contribute to managing work health and safety information systems (WHSIS) to support work health and safety (WHS) management.
  • manage the identification, review, development, implementation and evaluation of effective participation and consultation processes as an integral part of managing work health and safety (WHS).
  • plan documents, draft text, prepare final text and produce documents of some complexity.
  • plan, conduct and report on investigations of work health and safety (WHS) incidents that have resulted in, or have the potential to result in, injury or damage.
  • facilitate the development and use of WHS risk management tools.
