About
The Graduate Certificate in Client Assessment and Case Management is designed for experienced practitioners in the health and community service sectors who provide specialist services to clients with complex and diverse needs.
In the course, you will develop specialist knowledge and skills for working with men who use violence.
The course is delivered in conjunction with Melbourne-based group No to Violence, the peak body for organisations and individuals working with men to end family violence and is tailored for people who currently work or wish to work in men’s behaviour change programs.
On successful completion, you will have developed the skills to demonstrate autonomy, well-developed judgement, adaptability and responsibility when working in this specialised area.
Structure
The Graduate Certificate in Client Assessment and Case Management is designed for experienced case management practitioners in the community services sector. The qualification is intended to develop specialist knowledge and skills and strengthen your existing capabilities to facilitate independent and complex judgements when working with men who use violence. A practitioners role may also involve full responsibility and accountability for all aspects of work of self, others and functions; including advanced case management and assessment roles.
The delivery of this course incorporates men’s family violence experiential learning, reflective practice and evidence-based models and its focus is enhancing group facilitation practice for practitioners who facilitate Men’s Behaviour Change groups with men who are using family violence. The blended delivery is structured to suit those already working in the community services sector. It is 12 months duration and delivered in conjunction with Melbourne-based No to Violence, the peak body for organisations and individuals working with men to end family violence.
Key areas in the course include:
- Facilitation, micro skills and group theory
- Collaborative model of intervention
- Theoretical frameworks that underpin Men’s Behavioural Change group work
- Promoting and managing diversity and inclusion
- Enhancing the safety of women and children who are affected by men’s use of family violence
To pass this course you will undertake a number of assessment tasks and complete a 20-week student placement. These assessments reflect the core learning areas of the program.
This is a nationally approved vocational course that is recognised throughout Australia.
To be awarded this qualification, students will complete a total of 10 units, consisting of seven core and three electives.

Entry requirements
A minimum three-year tertiary qualification or equivalent in an associated field (equivalency may include significant work experience* in a community sector organisation in a role involving assessment and case management services).
Applicants will be required to attend an interview.
*Work experience: applicants are required to submit a resume/CV clearly detailing roles and duties, and duration of posts held, as well as copies of qualifications and academic transcripts.
Applicants will need to demonstrate literacy and numeracy competencies.
Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide students who complete with the skills and knowledge to perform competently as advanced health and/or community services practitioners.
On completion of this qualification, students will have developed the skills to demonstrate autonomy, well-developed judgement, adaptability and responsibility.
