About
The Graduate Certificate of Finance and Banking is available to students who wish to only complete the initial stage of the Master of Finance and Banking.
Structure
The Graduate Certificate provides the basic entry level for people seeking careers and qualifications in banking and finance. The first four units cover the areas of accounting priniciples, business modelling and analysis, economics and corporate financial management.
To qualify for the award of Graduate Certificate of Finance and Banking (GC-FINBAN), students must complete 50 credit points comprising:
- Four core stage 1 units (12.5 credit points each)
The four units can be completed over two semesters of part-time study or may be completed in one semester full-time. Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time and on campus.

Students must complete all four core stage 1 units (12.5 credit points each):
ACC60008 Accounting Systems and Reporting FIN60003 Business Modelling and Analysis ECO80001 Economics FIN80005 Corporate Financial Management*Outcome units - matched exemptions are generally not granted for higher education outcome units.
Learning outcomes
The Graduate Certificate of Finance and Banking is designed for individuals who are seeking a career in finance or banking but do not possess a prior finance background or have minimal exposure to finance and banking knowledge. Students will learn to apply foundational finance and banking knowledge in a range of contexts to undertake early careers in the financial services and banking industry. This course also provides a pathway for further learning such as the Graduate Diploma of Finance and Banking and the Master of Finance and Banking.
At completion of the Graduate Certificate of Finance and Banking, graduates should be able to:
- apply coherent and developed knowledge of finance and banking concepts in diverse contexts and applications using critical thinking
- apply problem solving, design and decision making methodologies to identify and provide innovative solutions to complex problems with reference to established frameworks
- communicate proficiently in professional practice to a variety of audiences, function as an effective member or leader of a diverse team, and use the basic tools and practices of finance and banking within project work
- demonstrate integrity, ethical conduct, accountability, respect and a developing awareness of professional practices and cultural norms in a global and sustainable context.
