About

The Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Management) qualifies graduates to undertake management roles in the aviation industry.

The course primarily is designed to meet the needs of personnel currently involved in the aviation industry who wish to upgrade their skills at tertiary level in the area of aviation management.

The course consists of both core and elective units.

The Graduate Diploma enables a student to specialise in discipline specific material, building on the core materials provided in the Graduate Certificate.

Elective units may be taken from either the Aviation Management or Aviation Human Factors units or as approved by the Aviation Postgraduate Course Coordinator.

Graduates may pathway into the Master of Aviation (Management) course with advanced standing.

Structure

The Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Management) forms the second stage in a three stage nested suite of programs consisting of: Graduate Certificate of Aviation (Management)

Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Management) (GD-AVMGT)

Master of Aviation (Management) All aviation units of study are undertaken by distance education. Please note that students must have access to the internet as materials are delivered online. Non-aviation units may use other means of delivery and assessment. Find out more about the Department of Aviation .

To qualify for the Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Management), students must complete 8 units (100 credit points):

  • 4 core units (50 credit points)
  • At least 2 discipline units (25 credit points)
  • Maximum 2 elective units (25 credit points)

Note: students are required to complete the 4 core units (50 credit points) first.

Students undertaking either the Management or Human Factors postgraduate program can design their program to respectively focus on either Management or Human Factors, or through the selection of elective units, add breadth to their program by undertaking units from the each of the programs.

Entry requirements

Aviation; Engineering; Business; Economics; Management; Law; Marketing; Science; Technology; Psychology; Social Science; or other disciplines assessed to be appropriate.

Applicants who do not meet the above entry requirements will be considered if they have significant, relevant aviation or allied industry experience* (minimum of three years).

* Relevant industry experience: If this includes work experience, documents substantiating work experience need to be provided on company letterhead and clearly detail roles as well as duties and duration of posts held.

Learning outcomes

On the completion of the Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Management), graduates will be able to:

  • demonstrate advanced knowledge in professional aviation management practice
  • identify and describe the complexity of issues and relationships in the aviation industry and provide and evaluate creative solutions to aviation management problems
  • describe contemporary and emerging aviation industry issues and challenges
