The Master of Corporate Governance (Advanced) offers business leaders the chance to master the art of board management in a range of businesses and organisations, as well as lead cutting-edge research in the field.

As the role of the company director becomes increasingly important, and documented, you’ll develop a broad range of skills preparing you to succeed in directing boards, and contribute to the field as an established professional.

Included in the range of skills students will acquire are leadership and behaviour training, accounting fundamentals, risk and decision making theory, and the chance to undertake a piece of independent research – making an original contribution to research in the area of corporate governance and business.

Structure

The Master of Corporate Governance (Advanced) will equip graduates to become company directors, with an understanding of law, leadership, design thinking, risk and governance issues. The role of governance is becoming more important and evident due to highly visible corporate failures, executive remuneration, and corporate decision making. A mastery of governance is becoming more important for those in senior management roles, including board members, company directors, members of the C-suite, company secretaries, accountants and workers looking to move into senior management roles. Equipping graduates with this knowledge will help them to navigate legal and governance issues in decision making.The Master of Corporate Governance (Advanced) forms the final stage in a nested suite of programs consisting of:

  • Graduate Certificate of Corporate Governance
  • Graduate Diploma of Corporate Governance ^
  • Master of Corporate Governance Master of Corporate Governance (Advanced)

^ Students are unable to enrol directly into the Graduate Diploma of Corporate Governance but it is available as an exit award.

A student cannot be awarded two masters level courses from the same nested suite.

This course is for working professionals. That’s why we offer it in Intensive Mode. It’s an efficient and faster way to complete a postgraduate qualification with minimal impact on your professional and personal life. Units (subjects) are either delivered after work hours or on Fridays or Saturdays, and run throughout the year in six week teaching periods instead of the usual 12 week semesters. This means you can complete more units and graduate faster, or take breaks when you need to.

To qualify for the award of Master of Corporate Governance (Advanced), students must complete 200 credit points comprising of:

  • 10 core units (125 credit points)
  • 6 elective units (75 credit points)

OR

  • 10 core units (125 credit points)
  • 2 research options (37.5 credit points)
  • 3 elective units (37.5 credit points)
Students can only take out one masters level award from a nested suite of postgraduate course. Maximum Academic CreditThe maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Master of Corporate Governance is 75 credit points (normally six units)

Entry requirements

Graduate Certificate of Corporate Governance full-time relevant professional experience* Faculty PVC (or delegate) with reference to Faculty determined guiding principles. Applicants will be required to submit a curriculum vitae (CV) with their application. Docu ments substantiating relevant experience are required, clearly detailing roles and duration, as well as evidence of formal and non-formal learning. Where relevant experience is used for the basis of admission, no further recognition for prior learning/credit can be granted on that basis.

At completion of the Master of Corporate Governance (Advanced), graduates will be able to:
