The Master of Human Resource Management will equip you with the core capabilities required to lead people effectively in a rapidly changing business environment.

Co-created with industry partners, Siemens and Medibank, the Master of Human Resource Management will bring you face-to-face with those shaping the HRM landscape and ensure you’re at the forefront of change in HRM practices.

This course is part of Swinburne’s Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship (AGSE).

Structure

As high levels of disruption impact industry and employees move unencumbered across careers, the role for human resource professionals is growing increasingly critical within the workplace. The Master of Human Resource Management will give you the skills required to help organisations transition and businesses change.

With a strong emphasis on the application of knowledge, the Master of Human Resource Management will put you in practical business environments where you’ll work on real world projects provided by our industry partners.

Upon completion, you’ll be prepared to confidently navigate and lead change in any environment you find yourself in.

The course is taught in blended mode, which combines face-to-face delivery with online study, meaning you get the best of both worlds – efficient class-time, where you’ll engage in debate and meet real practitioners, while also completing your course online, when it’s convenient for you. This gives you some flexibility in balancing your study with your work and home commitments.
  • Graduate Certificate of Human Resource Management
  • Graduate Diploma of Human Resource Management (GD-HRM) ^
  • Master of Human Resource Management (MA-HRM) or
  • Master of Human Resource Management (Advanced)

To qualify for the award of Master of Human Resource Management, students must complete 150 credit points comprising of:

  • 9 core units (112.5 credit points)
  • 3 Elective units (37.5 credit points)

Maximum Academic CreditThe maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Master of Human Resource Management is 75 credit points (normally six units)

Entry requirements

  • a recognised bachelor degree in a related discipline or
  • a recognised bachelor degree in any discipline PLUS a minimum two years equivalent full-time relevant professional experience* or
  • successful completion of the Graduate Certificate of Human Resource Management ** or
  • completion of the Postgraduate Qualifying Program PLUS either previous Higher Education Study in a related discipline OR aminimum of two two years equivalent full-time relevant professional experience* (International applicants only)
Applicants will be required to submit a curriculum vitae (CV) with their application. Documents substantiating relevant experience are required, clearly detailing roles and duration, as well as evidence of formal and non-formal learning. Where relevant experience is used for the basis of admission, no further recognition for prior learning/credit can be granted on that basis.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
  • apply coherent and advanced knowledge of human resource management concepts in diverse contexts and applications using critical thinking
  • apply problem solving, design and decision making methodologies to identify and provide innovative solutions to complex problems with intellectual independence
  • communicate proficiently in professional practice to a variety of audiences, function as an effective member or leader of a team
  • demonstrate professionalism, integrity, ethical conduct, professional accountability and a deep awareness of professional practices in a global and sustainable context
  • apply human resource management fundamentals to the analysis, design and operation of a business model using appropriate human resource management methods and tools, applied in a variety of contexts
  • reflect on and take responsibility for their own learning and self-management processes, and manage their own time and processes effectively by regularly reviewing performance as a means of managing continuing professional development and lifelong learning
  • apply knowledge of research principles and methods to plan and execute a piece of research with some independence.
