About
The Master of Research is part of a combined set of programs that offer students a pathway into a higher degree by research from an undergraduate degree.
The Master of Research offers students the opportunity to undertake supervised research in the related discipline of their choice, with the aim of submitting a major thesis of 20,000 words.
Candidates develop a range of skills, including independent thinking, project management, data analysis and critical thinking, as well as refined communication skills.
The program fosters the development of independent research skills, making it ideal preparation for those looking to undertake further research through a PhD program and/or pursue a career in research.
Structure
The Master of Research offers students the opportunity to undertake supervised research in the related discipline of their choice. The program fosters the development of independent research skills, making it ideal preparation for those looking to undertake further research through a PhD program and/or pursue a career in research. A Master of Research candidate will undertake supervised research with the aim of completing a major thesis that demonstrates mastery of inquiry in a field of a discipline or profession.
tudents must complete a (BH-INTHAS). Students also have the option of progressing to the Doctor of Philosophy [Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences] (DR-INTHAS). Students applying to the Master of Research (MR-INTHAS) will automatically be considered for a place in the Bachelor of Research (Honours) (BH-INTHAS) and do not need to apply separately for the Bachelor of Research (Honours) program.To qualify for the award of Master of Research, students must satisfactorily complete:
- 1 core unit of study (12.5 credit points)
- Thesis (20,000 words)
Units of study
All students must complete the following:
- MFP80001 Research Seminar B (12.5 credit points)
- A 20,000 word thesis
Entry requirements
To be eligible for admission into the Master of Research (MR-INTHAS) course, an applicant must have successfully completed the Bachelor of Research (Honours) (BH-INTHAS) at Swinburne with a credit average.
Students applying to the Master of Research (MR-INTHAS) will automatically be considered for a place in the Bachelor of Research (Honours) (BH-INTHAS) and do not need to apply separately for the Bachelor of Research (Honours) program.Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Master of Research graduates will be able to:1. Demonstrate skills to investigate, analyse, synthesise and critically evaluate current theory and knowledge in one or more disciplines2. Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of research principles and methods and ability to apply appropriate methods to answer a research question3. Demonstrate ability to design and conduct a coherent, independent research project and successfully execute it in a timely and self-directed manner4. Demonstrate communication and technical skills through the presentation of a coherent and sustained argument in both verbal and written forms5. Design, evaluate, implement, analyse, theorise and disseminate research that makes a contribution to knowledge6. Work independently and ethically.
