The Critical Care Medicine program is tailored to the needs and interests of critical care specialists and trainees seeking further educational opportunities in emergency medicine, intensive care and anaesthetics.

It is designed to produce well-rounded and analytical critical care clinicians.This course is offered through our interactive online learning environment, giving you the flexibility to tailor your study schedule around your lifestyle.All stream specific units are online.

You may find however;

a couple of electives do have a face-to-face component.

These can be avoided depending on your individual preferences.

Clinical and academic leaders will help you develop the knowledge and skills needed to become a well-rounded, informed and analytical clinician.

Coursework is provided in anatomy, pathology, physiology and pharmacology to help you prepare for college barrier examinations.In anaesthetics and intensive care medicine, you can pursue highly coveted expertise in neuromonitoring, pain management, mechanical ventilation or extracorporeal life support.

If emergency medicine is your interest, you may choose coursework in retrieval medicine, point of care ultrasound or clinical reasoning and communication.There is a wide range of subject areas to choose from and you can develop valuable non-technical skills in teaching, simulation and research.

Entry requirements

Admission criteria

Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Medicine (Critical Care Medicine) requires a medical degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification as well as the following:

  • current medical registration in an Australian or New Zealand jurisdiction
  • current or prior employment as a medical practitioner in a clinical setting in an Australian or New Zealand jurisdiction.
