Would you like to develop the specialised skills, knowledge and values you need to teach children with special education needs, and for leadership, consultancy and resources roles in Special and Inclusive Education?

This program will equip you to tackle the real-world challenges that teachers face in the classroom every day.You will explore how to work with students who have special education needs, how to prevent disruptive behaviour and teach students with learning difficulties.

You"ll gain a broad perspective on the issues, practices and philosophies in special and inclusive education.You'll benefit from the cultural and professional diversity of learning alongside local and international students and teachers from a broad range of backgrounds, including early childhood, primary, secondary, post-secondary, public and private schools, and mainstream, support and specialist school teachers.Commonwealth Supported PlacesCommonwealth Supported Places (CSP) are available for postgraduate study for eligible domestic students.

This means that your course fees are subsidised by the Australian Government and you pay a student contribution amount (SCA).

CSPs are limited in number and are allocated based on academic merit.

Entry requirements

Admission requirement

Admission to candidature for the Master of Education (Special and Inclusive Education) requires:

  • a Bachelor of Education from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification and either the completion of postgraduate studies, or professional experience equivalent to one year full-time in a field considered by the Faculty to be appropriate to the program of study; or
  • a bachelor's degree and either the Graduate Diploma in Education or Bachelor of Teaching or Master of Teaching from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification; or
  • a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification and either the completion of postgraduate studies in Education, or professional experience equivalent to two years full-time in a field considered by the Faculty to be appropriate to the program of study.

If you do not meet the requirements listed above for direct entry to the Master’s degree, you may be able to enter via a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in the same subject area and upgrade to the Master’s after successful completion of the shorter course.
