The Master of Learning Sciences and Technology (Professional) is designed to give you unparalleled insight into the design, management and research of technology-supported learning.The professional pathway will appeal to you if you're looking to work as a learning and development manager, an instructional designer, a multimedia learning designer or a learning strategist.

The faculty's Centre for Research on Computer-Supported Learning and Cognition (the CoCo Research Centre) offers specialised technologies and facilities, including a combination of virtual and physical spaces equipped with the latest learning technology.You'll gain knowledge of the latest theories of learning and learning design, as well as an overview of established and emerging learning technologies.

You'll also develop competencies in planning for change, systems thinking, designing for technology-rich learning and methods of measuring learning and collaboration.If you wish to do research in ICT-supported learning and are likely to progress to a PhD in the field, please see the Master of Learning Sciences and Technology (Research).Commonwealth Supported PlacesCommonwealth Supported Places (CSP) are available for postgraduate study for eligible domestic students.

This means that your course fees are subsidised by the Australian Government and you pay a student contribution amount (SCA).

CSPs are limited in number and are allocated based on academic merit.

Entry requirements

Admission requirement

Available places will be offered to qualified applicants based on merit. Admission to the Master of Learning Sciences and Technology (Professional) requires:

  • a Bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney, in Education, Computer Science and Technology, Information Technology, Arts (Informatics) or Psychology AND either one year's full-time professional experience in relevant area or relevant postgraduate studies; or
  • a Bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification and either relevant postgraduate studies or two year's full-time professional experience in a field relevant to the course content; or
  • completion of the embedded Graduate Diploma in Learning Sciences and Technology of the University of Sydney, or equivalent qualification.

In exceptional circumstances, the Dean may admit applicants without these qualifications who, in the opinion of the faculty, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award.

If you do not meet the requirements listed above for direct entry to the Master’s degree, you may be able to enter via a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in the same subject area and upgrade to the Master’s after successful completion of the shorter course.
