If you are seeking to make the transition from a science or mathematics-based career to become an engineer, or if you already have an engineering degree and would like to change paths to a different specialisation, the Master of Professional Engineering offers an accredited qualification that will enable you to practise in Australia and overseas.

The civil specialisation will teach you about planning, designing and testing structures within the built environment.The degree will also help you develop the sound communication, management and decision-making capabilities necessary to interpret and discuss complex issues in your area of specialisation.

The program will provide you with the engineering professional practice and research skills that lead to recognition as an Australian graduate engineer.

Your qualifications will be recognised internationally through the Washington Accord of the International Engineering Alliance.

Entry requirements

Admission criteria

To be eligible for admission, an applicant is required to have:

- an Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree with a 65 percent average, or equivalent qualification or

- an Australian bachelor's degree in a non-Engineering discipline with a 65 percent average, with studies equivalent to 48 credit points (equivalent to 1 year full time study load) in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, computing or statistics, as related to the stream sought for admission.

For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution and qualification.

Fast-track your Master's

- If you have the equivalent of an Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree with a 65 percent average in an unrelated specialisation, or a Bachelor of Science of similar (in a related discipline), you may be eligible for a Reduced Volume of Learning (RVL) of up to 24 credit points or 1 semester.

- If you have an equivalent of an Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree with a 65 percent average in a related specialisation, please apply for the relevant two-year Master of Professional Engineering (Accelerated) degree.

- If you have a postgraduate engineering degree with a 65 per cent average in a related specialisation, you may be eligible for RVL of up to 72 credit points or 1.5 years.

Applying for RVL/Credit: To be assessed for RVL/Credit, you are required to indicate in your application for admission that you would like to apply for credit. You will then receive an email with instructions on how to submit your application for credit. If you receive an offer of admission, the outcome of your credit application will be included in your letter of offer. For information on RVL and degree requirements visit CUSP.
