Globally, the challenges of sexual and reproductive health including HIV/STIs, infertility, and unintended pregnancy continue to be a significant public health issue.

Challenges to sexual function and wellbeing also impact on the health of individuals.

Comprehensive prevention and treatment of sexual and reproductive health issues requires a thorough understanding of the psychosocial contexts in which they occur as well as the biological and diagnostic aspects of sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing.

Designed by clinical and academic experts, the program enables students to address these challenges head-on through flexible units that deliver maximum professional relevance and choice.

Students will have opportunities to:This course is designed for graduates from a wide range of disciplines, including doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers, counsellors, laboratory scientists, public health officers, health promotion specialists, researchers and other allied health practitioners or students who are interested in working in the field of HIV and STIs, psychosexual therapy/sexology, sexual and reproductive health.Please note that the double degree is only available to international students and is conditional upon the appointment of an appropriate supervisor.

Combine stream-specific units of study with electives to develop your foundational knowledge in your chosen study area, as well as broader knowledge in other areas of interest.

With an interprofessional and multidisciplinary structure, students will develop effective collaborative approaches to employment in a variety of healthcare settings.

Entry requirements

Admission criteria

Admission to the Master of Science in Medicine (Sexual and Reproductive Health) and Master of Philosophy requires:

  • a bachelor's degree with honours in a health or science-related discipline; or
  • a bachelor's degree plus a postgraduate degree in a health or science-related discipline; or
  • a pass bachelor's degree in a health or science-related discipline plus a minimum of 12 months relevant work experience.

Admission to candidature will be conditional upon the appointment of an appropriate supervisor and associate supervisor.

The double degree is only available to international students. Domestic students can apply to undertake the two degrees separately.

The combined degree is available to medical graduates as a Master of Medicine (Sexual and Reproductive Health) and Master of Philosophy.
