This graduate certificate is designed to further enhance the skills and knowledge of health professionals working in the area of clinical education, to extend their skills and to enable them to pursue professional development opportunities in educational and workplace settings.
Through a range of theoretical and practical learning you will explore educational theory and practices, as well as various types of educational assessments for health professionals.
The structure and delivery of this qualification is flexible, allowing you to fit your study in among other life and work commitments.
This graduate certificate is only offered online on a part-time basis, usually over one year, and is only offered to Australian students.

Applicants are required to:
- hold a Bachelor degree in a health science area from a recognised higher education institution or equivalent qualification; AND
Learning outcomes
Through a range of theoretical and practical learning you will gain a thorough understanding of the specialty area of clinical education. You will:
- explore educational theory and practices, as well as various types of educational programs designed for health professionals
- develop the ability to plan and use a range of educational strategies to facilitate learning in clinical and other education settings
- develop an understanding of the theory and practice of educational assessment
- develop a clear understanding of the theories associated with learning.
For each course you study, you will need to allocate time for various classes such as lectures, tutorials, workshops, seminars and practicals. Plus you will need additional hours to study in your own time to complete assignments, readings and projects and contribute to online discussion forums. So as a general rule, if you are studying full-time you would need to allocate 12 – 26 hours of study when at university and 14 – 28 hours of independent study per week.
This graduate certificate is professionally focused and a lot of the assessments are theoretical, for example written assignments.
This degree is offered online. This means that you:
- will study online, including accessing access videos and course resources
- participate in an interactive online learning environment
- submit your assignments and get feedback online
- use discussion forums for team work and communication

Your career
Educational theory and practice underpins many aspects of clinical skills. Those with advanced skills in supervising learners in the workplace can undertake a range of clinical education roles. Graduates may gain employment in a health service, aged care service or university and roles may include:
