If you are a Registered Midwife and wish to broaden your career prospects and explore senior roles, this Master's degree may be for you.

In just 1.5 years of full-time study or three years of part-time study, you will extend your knowledge, practical skills and understanding of evidence-based practice, grow your understanding of professional issues and develop the ability to independently undertake research.

This qualification is offered online with attendance required at some on-campus workshops.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

  • completed a bachelor degree (or higher) in Midwifery from a recognised higher education institution; AND
  • achieved a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5 (credit average)

In addition, applicants must:

  • hold a Current Practising Certificate as a Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia; AND
  • have completed a minimum of one year of clinical experience as a Registered Midwife.

Learning outcomes

Perinatal mental health is a main focus of this advanced qualification and you will graduate with the skills and knowledge needed to undertake assessment and screening of pregnant women and identify and refer mental health issues such as postnatal depression.

You will also develop the ability to:

  • independently complete projects and research
  • identify and investigate questions and address issues or problems to inform midwifery practice, knowledge and research.

For each course you study, you will need to allocate time for learning activities. Depending on your study mode this may include online discussion forums, virtual classroom sessions, lectures, tutorials, workshops and seminars. Plus you will need additional hours to study in your own time to complete assignments, readings and projects. As a general rule most postgraduate study is completed part-time and if you are studying full-time you would need to allocate 12 – 26 hours of study when at university and 14 – 28 hours of independent study per week.
