About
The Master of Educational Studies is a bespoke onshore contract course that is only available to approved cohorts of students.
Other students who are interested in undertaking postgraduate studies in specialised areas of education should refer to the Master of Education or the Master of Education Advanced.
Students who hold a bachelor’s degree and are seeking a teaching qualification should refer to the Master of Teaching (Primary) or Master of Teaching (Secondary).
Structure
The Master of Educational Studies requires the successful completion of 72 credit points as set out in the table below.

Compulsory Work Placement / Online Components
Entry requirements
In addition to meeting any requirements set out by the sponsor, candidates require a completed recognised bachelor level qualification, and/or sufficient level of educational experience and training. The course will include options for participation in subjects related to Mathematics and Science teaching methods, depending on each individual student’s experience in these disciplines. Student applications will be assessed in line with current UOW admissions policy and procedure. Students who have a sufficient level of educational experience and training will be offered the Master of Educational Studies, with 24 credit points of advanced standing to bring the course duration to 1 year.

Students with an IELTS (or equivalent) score of 6.5 (no less than 6 in each band) will be admitted directly into this course (as determined by the UOW admissions process) in line with current entry requirements for courses that include in-school placements. Students with an IELTS score below the minimum score of 6.5 will be required to attend the English Language training through UOW College Australia, prior to commencing their course.
Learning outcomes
Course Learning Outcomes are statements of learning achievement that are expressed in terms of what the learner is expected to know, understand and be able to do upon completion of a course. Students graduating from this course will be able to:
CLO Description 1 Demonstrate expert knowledge of educational theory, policy and practice, evaluating and applying them to their own professional teaching practice. 2 Demonstrate skills and knowledge to critically evaluate, interpret, design and conduct research for educational purposes. 3 Demonstrate advanced and integrated understanding of the complexities of classrooms and schools, developed through leading and participation in professional dialogue with practitioners, peers, school immersion and professional experience programs. 4 Work as adaptable, responsible, reflective, autonomous secondary teachers who use their skills and knowledge of teaching, learning and learners to make informed judgments that improve their classroom practice and their students’ learning. 5 Analyse, interpret and effectively communicate the complexity of factors influencing learning to students, parents, and colleagues. 6 Work effectively with students, families and colleagues in the education setting, building relationships that contribute to students’ and teachers’ learning and well-being.
