Master of Research

The Master of Research offered by the Faculty of the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities comprises research and research training, requiring students to complete 96 credit points of subjects.

The first year comprises 48 credit points of research training and coursework while the second year comprises a 48 credit point thesis, which may be assessed by two external examiners.

Academic Units may award advanced standing for the research training and coursework component and will determine the appropriate entry point.Students can apply for entry at any time with both beginning and mid-year intakes, and the degree can be undertaken full or part-time.The following research areas are available in the Humanities and the Arts:

English, History, Politics, Sociology, Indigenous Studies, Language and Linguistics, International Studies, Philosophy, Cultural Studies, and Science and Technology Studies.The degree suits students who have just finished their undergraduate degrees but who want the applied skills and industry recognition that comes with the Master of Research.

It also suits those returning to study and students interested in gaining extra research training on the way to a PhD.

The Master of Research is perfect for students who want training from experts in research methods and who would benefit from completing a substantial research project.Students can specialise in either Arts and Humanities, or Creative Arts, and are able to focus their research in the following areas:Specialisations are 'Arts and Humanities' or 'Creative Arts'.

Students will study their area of research under one of these specialisations.

Course Learning Outcomes are statements of learning achievement that are expressed in terms of what the learner is expected to know, understand and be able to do upon completion of a course. Students graduating from this course will be able to:
