Environmental Management (Honours)

University of Queensland

About

The Bachelor of Environmental Management (Honours) program prepares you to manage many of the environmental challenges faced by modern society both locally and globally, as we address fundamental issues of sustainability.

The program bridges the gap between science and management, incorporating fundamental biophysical science with social science and multidisciplinary skills in environmental management, decision making and policy analysis.

The final year focusses on integrating and applying research and core knowledge skills acquired in the first three years.

You will develop your ability to manage complex real-world problems that affect a range of environments, from natural through to urban and industrial settings.

Students with an adequate GPA from the first 3 years of study may elect to undertake an individual research thesis in their fourth year, or opt to undertake the industry placement project.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Environmental Management (Honours) prior to 2019 should refer to the 2018 Program information.

Placement courses

Real, high-level professional skills are a focus of the program and there are a number of opportunities for you to apply what you learn through practical experience. A compulsory industry placement course in your third year will provide you with experience in the workplace and an understanding of the factors involved in the operation and management of environmental issues. In your final year you will undertake an in-depth research project or industry placement project in conjunction with an external client where your knowledge and skills will be applied to a real world environmental problem. Through these experiences you will develop skills and attributes highly valued by employers. Field work There are opportunities to participate in field trips to a diverse range of environments across Queensland as well as international locations such as Indonesia and Hong Kong. Field work is an important part of many of our courses and allows you to observe environmental issues and the steps undertaken to combat them first hand.

Honours
