Social Work (Honours)

University of Queensland

About

Social Workers build relationships with individuals, groups and communities and advocate by being in the space between an individual and the broader community.

Their mission is to help and empower people to overcome particular problems, and to champion the rights of disadvantaged groups to create a fairer, more inclusive society.

This program combines core knowledge and skills in social work, social policy and research.

During your program you'll learn about social work and the law, human development, professional ethics, and the principles and ideas that guide social workers.

Structure

Develop a strong knowledge foundation in the social science disciplines during your first year, in fields including anthropology, sociology, psychology, government, economics and philosophy. Students are also introduced to welfare and social issues in Australian society. You will choose to specialise in one of the following areas: Child, Youth and Family; Health and Ageing; or Mental Health. Each of these minors provides detailed insight into social work practice with particular groups, or in particular settings.
