The Graduate Diploma allows students to study foundation courses in microeconomics and macroeconomics and extends those fundamentals.

The program assumes no prior knowledge or training in economics.

Further core courses also introduce students to important concepts for the study of economics such as mathematical techniques and statistics.

Graduates of this program will have the option to advance to one of the School's #32 Masters programs thereby attaining further core economics skills and competencies.

Obtaining a higher qualification in economics is a career investment.

Analytical ability, critical thinking and logic are highly valued commodities, and graduates of this program have the ability to succeed in a dynamic and an increasingly competitive environment.

Entry requirements

To complete the Graduate Diploma in Economics

To fulfil the requirements of the Graduate Diploma in Economics, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.

To complete the program, a student must complete 16 units from the GDipEcon course list comprising - (a) 14 units from part A of the list; and (b) 2 units from part B of the list. If exemptions apply for Part A courses, students are to undertake electives from Part B. With Head of School approval, a student may include 2 units for a level 7 course towards part B. Early exit points

Based upon course selection, students may be able to exit this award with the:

  • Graduate Certificate in Economic Studies (#8)
