This program does not presume prior knowledge or training in economics.

The program plan for this program can be found here. This program requires no prior knowledge of economics. You will be given the opportunity to progress to more advanced courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics during the program. Elective options may also include a research component, which provides a pathway to research higher degree study.

Entry requirements

To complete the Master of Economics

To fulfil the requirements of the Master of Economics, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.

To complete the program, a student must complete 32 units from the MEcon course list comprising - (a) 22 units from part A of the list; and (b) 10 units from part B of the list. If exemptions apply for Part A courses, students are to undertake electives from Part B. With Head of School approval, a student may include 2 units for a level 7 course towards part B. Early exit points

Based upon course selection, students may be able to exit this award with the:

  • Graduate Certificate in Economic Studies (#8)
  • Graduate Diploma in Economics (#16)
