Learn how to combine your knowledge of communication and the arts with teaching skills in this double degree, where you can specialise in two teaching areas*Δ such as English, geography, history, drama, Japanese#, music, screen media, psychology#, biology, chemistry or mathematics.
Learning outcomes
You will study how to plan lessons, assess students, and manage a classroom of students in Years 7-12. You will have the opportunity to travel to rural and remote areas for a teaching placement and learn to teach a diverse range of students in varied educational settings.
In this program you will:
- Learn how to plan lessons, assess students, and manage a classroom
- Link theory and practice through 80 days of supervised professional experience in Queensland schools
- Engage with community projects through 30 hours wider field experience with children, families and communities
- Be provided the opportunity to experience different school settings and learners by taking a trip to rural and remote areas
Graduates are eligible to become members of the Queensland College of Teachers.
Prior to entry, students will need to:
- Complete an online questionnaire to demonstrate your motivation for teaching
- Submit a 600-1000-word personal statement on why you would make a great teacher
- Obtain a Blue Card before starting supervised professional experience

* The following combinations of teaching areas will take longer than four years to complete and students will need an additional semester to finish: Japanese on-campus Major with any of the extended minors, Japanese Studies Extended Minor and Psychological Sciences Extended Minor with any of the majors, Theatre and Performance Major combined with the Biological Sciences Extended Minor. These combinations are NOT available for international students.
# The following teaching areas are not available at Moreton Bay: Japanese, Music, Theatre and Performance.
Δ The Japanese Studies Extended Minor and the Psychological Sciences Extended Minor are only available for students admitted in the program in Semester 1.
