Back to top Program aims The Bachelor of General Studies aims to equip students with the skills to synthesise information across knowledge domains and develop academic capabilities such as searching, comprehending and evaluating information from a range of sources.

The program provides the foundation for self-directed and lifelong learning as well as proficiencies in self-management and interpersonal skills across a range of contexts, preparing students for further study or new study direction.

Entry requirements

Admission requirements

To be eligible for admission, applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Have achieved a minimum Overall Position (OP) 18, tertiary entrance rank 64 or equivalent qualification.^
  • English Language Proficiency requirements for Category 2.

Please note: Some majors or disciplines may require further pre-requisites.

Non-standard admission is in accordance with University of Southern Queensland regulations, especially articulation from TAFE, or successful completion of three approved units of the Tertiary Preparation Program .

Applicants are advised to also address the following:

  • Assumed knowledge expectations: English

All students are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements.

If students do not meet the English language requirements they may apply to study a University-approved English language program. On successful completion of the English language program, students may be admitted to an award program.

These are determined by the University for specific programs each Semester. The 2019 OP and tertiary entrance ranks are based on agreed QTAC schedules which assess formal study at Year 12 or equivalent level, tertiary, preparatory, professional or vocational qualifications or work experience, as detailed in the QTAC Assessment of Qualifications Manual and QTAC Assessor Guidelines. Special admissions may help you get into the program of your choice by increasing your Selection Rank. The additional points don't apply to all applicants or all programs. Program objectives

On completion of this program students should be able to:

  1. gain a foundation knowledge and apply key competencies in academic writing, mathematics, digital literacies, and study skills
  2. articulate ideas and concepts across a range of knowledge domains
  3. apply creative, critical and analytical skills to solve problems in diverse contexts
  4. communicate with academic clarity and coherence in written and oral forms
  5. apply ethical decision-making in diverse applications.
