Back to top Program aims The Bachelor of Nursing provides the graduate with the nursing knowledge and skills to apply to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse.
To gain registration as a nurse, graduates of this program will also have to satisfy registration criteria of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
To gain registration, applicants will also have to meet standards in English language skills, criminal history, and professional indemnity insurance.
To maintain registration, nurses are also required to meet standards of Continuing Professional Development and Recency of Practice.

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) will keep a register of students enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing for the duration of their study or clinical training.
USQ as the education provider will pass on students' details directly to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) for registration.
No fees are required.
Entry requirements
Admission requirements
To be eligible for admission, applicants must satisfy the following requirements:
- Have achieved a minimum Overall Position (OP) 15, tertiary entrance rank 68 or equivalent qualification.^
- Subject Pre-requisite: English (4,SA) or equivalent
- English Language Proficiency requirements for Category 4.
Applicants are advised to also address the following:
- Recommended Prior Study: Mathematics A (4,SA) or equivalent and one of Biological Science, Chemistry, Physics or Science (4,SA) or equivalent.
Satisfaction of admission requirements does not guarantee admission. Places within the Bachelor of Nursing are limited by quota. Quota size is determined by the availability of hospital placements. Where the quota is filled, no further places will be offered.
All students are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements.
These are determined by the University for specific programs each Semester. The 2019 OP and tertiary entrance ranks are based on agreed QTAC schedules which assess formal study at Year 12 or equivalent level, tertiary, preparatory, professional or vocational qualifications or work experience, as detailed in the QTAC Assessment of Qualifications Manual and QTAC Assessor Guidelines. Special admissions may help you get into the program of your choice by increasing your Selection Rank. The additional points don't apply to all applicants or all programs. Graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing will be able to:
- direct their own learning and understand the NMBA Scope of Practice of Registered Nurses as responsible, reflective lifelong learners
- apply clinical reasoning and clinical management using the nursing process and the best available evidence to provide safe, person-centred nursing care
- demonstrate exemplary communication and interpersonal relationships working and leading intra-professional and interdisciplinary teams
- plan, provide and evaluate comprehensive, safe, appropriate and responsive quality nursing care across multiple contexts and populations that meets NMBA Professional Standards of Practice.
