Back to top Program aims The Bachelor of Paramedicine provides the graduate with the nursing knowledge and skills to apply to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for registration as a Registered Paramedic.

To gain registration as a paramedic, graduates of this program will also have to satisfy registration criteria of the Paramedicine Board of Australia.

To gain registration, applicants will also have to meet standards in English language skills, criminal history, and professional indemnity insurance.

To maintain registration, paramedics are also required to meet standards of Continuing Professional Development and Recency of Practice.

All of these standards can be found on the Paramedicine Board of Australia website.

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) will keep a register of students enrolled in the Bachelor of Paramedicine for the duration of their study or clinical training.

USQ as the education provider will pass on students' details directly to the Paramedicine Board of Australia (PBA) for registration.

No fees are required.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for admission, applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Have achieved a minimum Overall Position (OP) 15, tertiary entrance rank 68 or equivalent qualification.^
  • English Language Proficiency requirements for Category 3.

Applicants are advised to also address the following:

  • Assumed knowledge expectations: English.
  • Recommended Prior Study: One of Biology, Chemistry or Physics (4,SA) or equivalent.

Satisfaction of admission requirements does not guarantee admission. Places within the Bachelor of Paramedicine are limited by quota. Quota size is determined by the availability of clinical placements. Where the quota is filled, no further places will be offered.

All students are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements.

If students do not meet the English language requirements they may apply to study a University-approved English language program. On successful completion of the English language program, students may be admitted to an award program.

These are determined by the University for specific programs each Semester. The 2019 OP and tertiary entrance ranks are based on agreed QTAC schedules which assess formal study at Year 12 or equivalent level, tertiary, preparatory, professional or vocational qualifications or work experience, as detailed in the QTAC Assessment of Qualifications Manual and QTAC Assessor Guidelines. Special admissions may help you get into the program of your choice by increasing your Selection Rank. The additional points don't apply to all applicants or all programs. Graduates who successfully complete the Bachelor of Paramedicine will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of biophysical sciences and apply this knowledge in the delivery of safe, quality care in the pre-hospital environment;
  2. Develop knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to identify and manage common and serious illness;
  3. Demonstrate critical thinking, while practising autonomously and collaboratively;
  4. Apply ethical and evidence based knowledge to ensure informed decision making appropriate to the discipline;
  5. Demonstrate effective technical, oral and written communication skills relevant to paramedics;
  6. Apply the highest legal, ethical and professional standards.
