This combined degree gives students a specialisation in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) balanced by a broad understanding of the Arts (humanities, languages or social sciences).
This combined degree provides students with powerful communication and critical thinking skills coupled with a strong technological base.
The degree provides students with an opportunity to gain qualifications that will provide more breadth and offer wider opportunities for employment.The Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology (BICT) aims to give students the opportunity to explore a broad range of aspects of ICT, and to graduate them with knowledge and skills in a variety of key areas of ICT for a lifelong career.
The degree offers units across the complete spectrum of ICT, ranging from non-technical areas such as the nature of information and organisational needs for ICT through the hardware, software, network and creative technologies which are used to satisfy these needs, to the communication, design, development and management skills needed to create, implement and integrate ICT components.The degree produces ICT professionals who are confident and articulate team players, and who are attuned to the needs, methods and attitudes of business and society.
The BICT aims to provide ICT graduates with the skills and knowledge to take on appropriate professional positions in industry upon graduation and grow into leadership positions, achieve entrepreneurial ambition, or pursue research and graduate studies in ICT.The Bachelor of Arts (BA) offers a broad foundation in a diverse range of humanities and social science areas of study.
It provides students with the skills that employers want such as critical thinking, research analysis, problem solving, communication, creativity and versatility.Some units/majors for the Bachelor of Arts component of the combined degree may not be available in Launceston.

The combined degree requirements consist of 400 credit points across two components:
Bachelor of Arts Component (200cp)
The Bachelor of Arts component totals 200 credit points and the student must complete one Major, one Minor and Discipline units The BA major and minor must be in two different study areas.
Advanced speakers of a language are permitted to replace the 2 Introductory language units with Intermediate and/or Advanced level language units as approved by the College of Arts, Law and Education. These students may complete the degree with 2 Introductory units minimum. If progressing with the language as a major or a minor, the student must complete the sequence and overall degree credit point requirements with additional Intermediate or Advanced level language units. Advanced speakers cannot later enrol in the replaced Introductory language units.
Bachelor of Information & Communication Technology (200cp)
The BICT component of this combined degree follows a 4 year specialist structure with a core reversed major and a choice of another major. All students will complete an ICT Professional (Combined) reversed major. The students have a choice of two accompanying majors:
* Software Development—with a focus on system design, development, integration and administration.* Games and Creative Technology—with a focus on software design and development with a games and creative technology orientation.
Level requirements are:
- 6 introductory level units
- 4 intermediate level units
- 6 advanced level units

Domestic applicants who have recently completed secondary education (in the past two years)
If you have an ATAR of 65 or above, you are guaranteed a place in this course.
To be eligible for an offer, you must have an ATAR of 50 or above. This is the minimum ATAR needed for your application to be considered. Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available. Applicants who have recently completed senior secondary studies but have not received an ATAR may still be eligible for admission. We will consider your study plan and subject results on a case-by-case basis when we assess your application.
Applicants for the Theatre and Performance major in the Bachelor of Arts who have not met the minimum ATAR may be admitted to the course on the basis of an audition and interview. You can indicate your intention to complete this major as part of your application.

In 2019, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into this course was 68.7. The lowest ATAR to receive an offer may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive.
Domestic applicants with higher education study
To be eligible for an offer, you must have:
Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study
To be eligible for an offer, you must have completed a Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or an equivalent qualification) in any field.
Domestic applicants with work and life experience
If you have not successfully completed senior secondary, tertiary or TAFE/VET study, but have relevant work and life experience you can complete a personal competency statement. You may be eligible for an offer if you have work and life experiences that demonstrate a capacity to succeed in this course.
Recommended Prior Studies
If you have not completed senior secondary studies or equivalent studies in Mathematics, we recommend you speak with a course advisor about foundation or preparatory unit options. Additionally, students who have not experienced any computer programming before may benefit from completing the Programming Preparation Foundation Unit.
UTAS provides foundation units for students who haven’t completed the recommended prior studies for their course.
Special consideration
If your ability to access or participate in education has been affected by circumstances beyond your control, you can apply for special consideration as part of your application. We will consider a range of factors, including economic hardship, serious medical condition or disability.
We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. If your application is not approved, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best alternative pathway to your chosen course. Special consideration is not available for international applicants.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology (AQF Level 7) graduates will be able to:
- Acquire, consolidate, critically evaluate, reflect and synthesise advanced knowledge in one of the humanities and social sciences disciplines and in one of the information and communication technology disciplines.
- Demonstrate critical thinking by identifying, defining and solving problems with intellectual independence.
- Make evidence based decisions that take account of diverse contexts and constraints impacting on societies and environments.
- Communicate information effectively in written, visual and oral forms with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Work effectively, responsibly, respectfully and safely in individual and/or team contexts.
- Demonstrate self-management, flexibility, initiative and resilience in readiness for diverse workplace demands.
There is currently no AQF8/Honours year for the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology
