About
There is an increasing demand for highly trained individuals to lead and work in the sport, physical activity and recreation fields who have skills equal with, but not specific to, teacher education.
Over the previous five years through both Federal and State Government initiatives (i.e., Active After Schools) and through providers of activity-based health interventions (i.e., personal trainers, fitness leaders, wilderness leaders) there is an increasing industry demand for highly trained individuals.This non-teaching professional qualification will prepare you for a range of pathways in the sport, physical activity, leisure, personal training, sports management, wilderness and outdoor recreation industry.
This non-teaching degree will lead to a professional qualification that will prepare you for a range of pathways in the sport, physical activity, leisure,, personal training, sports management, wilderness and outdoor recreation industries.
There is an emphasis on developing life-long skills that will promote healthy lifestyles and physical fitness.Students will have an opportunity to pursue an additional area of interest through a large range of electives and minors on offer, such as personal trainer, fitness leader, business management, human resources or marketing.Please note:
This degree does not qualify graduates as Health & Physical Education teachers.
To become a Health & Physical Education teacher please consider the Bachelor of Education (HPE).
Structure
In the Bachelor of Physical Activity Studies, you enrol in 2 majors, a minor and 4 student electives. The two majors are compulsory for all students and there is a choice of minors and student electives.
This degree consists of a total of 24 units comprising:
- A reversed major of 8 units: 4 introductory, 2 intermediate, 2 advanced units
- A (standard) major of 8 units: 2 introductory, 2 intermediate, 4 advanced units
- A minor of 4 units: 2 introductory, 2 intermediate units
- Four student elective units: units which may be chosen from this or any other subject area within the University, provided they meet the unit level requirements for the degree (see next point below), unit pre-requisites and quotas. You may take individual units or study the equivalent of a second minor through your student electives and try out different subject areas – it's your choice.
- Unit level requirements for the degree are: between 8-10 units at introductory level, 6-10 units at intermediate level and 6-10 units at advanced level.
