About

The Bachelor of Communication (Honours) offers graduates the opportunity to pursue advanced-level study in communication, social sciences, cultural studies and creative arts.

It prepares graduates for higher degree research and professional activity.

Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary approaches and the integration of scholarship with contemporary issues in society and culture.An honours degree in communication provides an excellent opportunity for students to develop their creative practice, research and communication skills.

Supported by leading researchers, teachers and creative practitioners, students undertake a program of advanced coursework and produce a project relevant to their academic, professional and/or creative major.

Structure

Students complete two 12-credit-point subjects (24 credit points) and an honours project (24 credit points). The project is based on their original work informed by theoretical study and independent research. The project may be presented in a variety of traditional and/or non-traditional formats.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline at an appropriate level.

Applicants are admitted to the honours program only if appropriately qualified UTS: Communication academic staff are available for supervision for the thesis component.

The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 7.0 overall with a writing score of 7.0; or TOEFL: paper based: 584-609 overall with TWE of 5.0, internet based: 94-101 overall with a writing score of 27; or AE6: Pass; or PTE: 65-72; or CAE: 185-190.

Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

International students

Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
