Graduate-entry diplomas are available to students who have successfully completed a bachelor’s degree in any discipline, who wish to undertake further studies towards an additional undergraduate major.A Science diploma provides students with the opportunity to either extend their previous undergraduate studies within a particular discipline, or choose a major from an entirely new area.

Students are required to complete eight units from a Science discipline in an approved sequence from Level 1 to Level 3.

Due to the sequence of required units, a diploma can only be completed on a part-time basis.

Credit (advanced standing) will not be granted for units successfully completed in previous courses.

Structure

The Diploma in Science course normally consists of eight units from Levels 1–3 comprising a single major offered within the undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree course.

Students take the second major sequence and are normally not required to complete complementary units. Additional units may be permitted to satisfy prerequisites or co-requisites.

Entry requirements

(1) Subject to (2), a diploma course normally consists of eight units comprising a single major offered in an undergraduate degree course of the University, excluding any complementary units.

(2) Students are permitted to include additional units to satisfy prerequisites and/or co-requisites.

(3) A single major consists of eight units from the same disciplinary field.

(4) The eight units of a single major are made up of—

(a) in most cases:

(i) two Level 1 units; and

(ii) two Level 2 units; and

(iii) four Level 3 units;

or

(b) in exceptional cases:

(i) two Level 1 units; and

(ii) three Level 2 units; and

(iii) three Level 3 units;
