About
The Master of Health Science course is designed to prepare new, aspiring and middle tier health service practitioners, planners and managers to assume a leadership role in the strategic and operational management of a wide range of health services and facilities.
The content aims to develop skills in managing people, resources, systems, and processes within health services to meet the changing needs of communities, clinicians, governments and organisations.
The objective of the program is to develop decision-ready practitioners who can impact positively on health service issues and systems.

Admission
Applicants must have either
An undergraduate, master or doctoral degree in any discipline

A graduate diploma or graduate certificate in any discipline and three years full-time equivalent work experience in a relevant health-related discipline

Applicants seeking admission on the basis of work experience must support their application with a Statement of Service for all work experience listed on the application.
Statement of Service
Applications from Opal Aged Care employees need to be accompanied by a Statement of Service from Opal Aged Care in order to be eligible for, and processed as, an Opal Aged Care scholarship recipient.
Applications from Australian and New Zealand citizens and holders of permanent resident visas must be made via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC). Use the links below to apply via UAC or Western Sydney University. Applications made directly to Western Sydney do not have an application fee.

Overseas qualifications must be deemed by the Australian Education International - National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR) to be equivalent to Australian qualifications in order to be considered by UAC and Western Sydney University.
Work Integrated Learning
Western Sydney University seeks to enhance student learning experiences by enabling students to engage in the culture, expectations and practices of their profession or discipline. This course includes a placement or other community-based unpaid practical experience.

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) for international students
Professional Internship in Health – this unit will use workplace and community as a site for learning and will involve 320h of placement with a healthcare service. Assessment is undertaken by the on-site supervisors using a comprehensive form and supporting documentation and resources. Mid-placement checks with both students and supervisors are undertaken to pre-empt any concerns as well as random checks throughout. Students are required to complete academic assessment tasks, including an e-Portfolio and a workplace product at the end.

Health Services Management
This specialisation is designed for health practitioners who require skills in contemporary management and their application in the health care setting. Particular emphasis is placed on critical and analytic skills in health service governance, financing, quality and safety, and planning and evaluation, thus providing graduates with the ability to respond effectively to changes as they arise. Students in this specialisation can further focus their studies in areas relevant to health service managers, such as project management, aged care management, human resource management and research and development.

Occupational Health and Safety
This specialisation focuses on the practice of workplace health within national and international frameworks. It explores issues such as the physical, social and mental impact of the occupational environment on health. Strategies for the management of workplace health are examined, together with methods of monitoring and evaluating occupational health programs. Students have the opportunity to develop a safety systems program concentrating on hazard identification, risk assessment and devising control measures incorporating safety management principles. Students in this specialisation can further focus their studies in areas relevant workplace health and safety officers, such as project management, and research and development.

Digital Health
The Digital Health specialisation combines the opportunity to study contemporary issues associated with information management in healthcare organisations with the integration of a sound understanding of the impact of digital health, as well as the development and implementation of projects and programs relating to this growing and critical area in both organisations and professional practice. The specialisation would be of interest to clinicians, health management and science (information engineering) professionals, and personnel working in health corporate roles with responsibilities in health data and information. Students in this specialisation can further focus their studies in aspects of innovation and entrepreneurship, and research and development in the digital health space.
