Our fast-tracked program provides an introduction to the principles and practices of education at secondary-school level.
While the certificate doesn't qualify you to teach in schools, it opens the door to a range of roles that support young adults in their learning.
It also prepares you for the Master of Teaching (Secondary Education), which leads to teacher registration.
You'll graduate with skills and knowledge in these areas:
education strategies to support and include students from diverse backgrounds teaching practices for literacy and numeracy education across the curriculum data analysis to monitor the effectiveness of teaching practices and student learning research methods for sourcing and understanding education resources.

Structure
To complete the Graduate Certificate in Education (Secondary) students will be required to complete:

Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee you entry into this course. Some courses receive more applications than the number of places available. In this situation we will also assess your education, work and other relevant experience.

Entry requirements

Pathways from VU courses

Credit for skills and past study
If you have completed study with another university or institution and believe you are eligible to receive credit for skills and past study, you can apply for advanced standing.
Applications for advanced standing can be made after a discussion with your course coordinator or academic adviser.
Additional information
Graduates who intend to progress to a teaching career may apply to enrol in the Master of Teaching (Secondary Education) and prior to entering second semester of full time study within the course, students are required to sit the LANTITE test in order to demonstrate that their literacy and numeracy skills are within that expected of the top 30% of the population in Australia, as per National government requirements for initial teacher education.
Applicants for the Master of Teaching (Secondary Education) will also be asked to complete an assessment of their non-academic attributes. Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree from countries other than Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada or the Republic of Ireland will be required to complete IELTS (or equivalent): Overall 7.0 with Listening 7.5, Reading 6.5, Writing 6.5, Speaking 7.5

Students should note that they will be subject to a Working With Children Check before practice placements, in accordance with Department of Education and Training policy.
