The specialisation core subjects within the Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Sciences cover a range of plant and animal disciplines as well as a focus on current and emerging environmental agricultural and associated industry impacts.Graduates have a foundation in the scientific principles and analytical skills behind improved agricultural production systems and their sustainability. Students undertake interdisciplinary studies in the nature of agricultural crop, food and fibre production and markets at an advanced level. Knowledge and skills are developed in environmental, economic, social and ethical factors related to plant- and animal-derived food and fibre production in Australia and globally.The Graduate Diploma consists of 100 credit points of study and may be undertaken as either full-time over one year or part-time study over two years and will be delivered at the Parkville campus. The program comprises of two core subjects (25 credit points), three specialisation core subjects (37.5 points), and three elective subjects (37.5 credit points).The Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Sciences is a pathway into the Master of Agricultural Sciences.

Graduate Diploma in Agribusiness for Veterinarians

The Graduate Diploma in Agribusiness for Veterinarians provides veterinary professionals with the opportunity to learn the principles of agricultural business management. The course is designed to take into account both current and anticipated future industry needs. The course is specifically designed to equip participants with core business competencies and skills, and to develop their leadership potential. The graduate diploma will provide veterinarians with an understanding of the factors influencing business decision-making within the agricultural sector across the length of the value chain from primary producers to retailers and consumers. Graduates will emerge well equipped to gain employment in a range of sectors including the agricultural industry, private practice consulting for production animals, government, research and academia. Students may also go on to complete the Masters of Agribusiness or the Masters of Agricultural Science at the University of Melbourne.Successful applicants will benefit from a focused learning environment involving international university partners, interacting regularly with other students, academic staff, and industry mentors and from active, extensive networking. Students will study core agribusiness coursework subjects in addition to undertaking industry placements in relevant organisations. The program will culminate in a capstone internship experience enabling students to develop work-ready skills and contacts within the agricultural sector.

Graduate Diploma in Ageing

The Graduate Diploma in Ageing (GD-AGEING) is a nested award within the Master of Ageing course.The GD-AGEING requires completion of a total of 100 points of study and is structured to suit individual needs and study preferences.The GD-AGEING structure requires the completion of an integrated suite of 4 core subjects (50 points), along with a choice of four elective subjects (50 points). The GD-AGEING will not offer the opportunity to pursue the capstone subjects offered in the full 150 points Master of Ageing course.Advanced standing up to 25 points may be awarded on entry into the GD-AGEING course as a result of post-graduate coursework in the ageing field. Hence, all students must complete a minimum of 75 points of study to be awarded the GD-AGEING.
