However, when Government guidelines change, on-campus studies will be reintroduced.The Master of Information Technology and Systems (MITS) provides a wide breadth of knowledge of varying aspects of information technology (IT) and information systems (IS). The MITS provides students with a previous tertiary qualification in any discipline area with the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable them to deal effectively with advanced issues involving IT and IS.The MITS provides non-ICT students with broad knowledge and understanding of fundamental information and communication technology concepts and principles. It also enables all students to select significant areas for in-depth study, from a range of advanced IT and IS areas, to provide students with knowledge, understanding and experiences that transcend technologies and are robust over time so that students are well-placed to deal with ongoing, rapid changes in the IT and IS fields.Studies in the various advanced areas of ICT allow students to develop a professional, responsible, self-reflective and critical attitude to the practice of ICT.Note: Students who commenced this course prior to 2016, should refer to the course schedules relevant to their year of entry.

Master of Protected Area Governance and Management

Due to the circumstances around COVID-19, you will begin your studies online. However, when Government guidelines change, on-campus studies will be reintroduced.Throughout the world there are over 160,000 protected areas that are managed with the aim of ensuring the long term conservation of nature with associated ecosystem services and cultural values.Good governance, planning and management are essential if protected areas are to achieve this aim.This course equips students with the knowledge and skills required by contemporary protected area professionals working in middle or senior governance or management roles. This course covers governance, planning and management practice in government, private and community-based protected areas. Terrestrial, freshwater and marine protected areas are addressed.Australian domestic candidates can study the course on-campus in Hobart or by Distance Education. For some units, distance students will have the option of attending field-based sessions, or undertaking the field work through virtual on-line exercises.International candidates study the course on-campus in Hobart.The course has been developed as part of an initiative to establish a protected area learning and research centre. This initiative is being led by a Steering Committee comprising representatives from UTas, Tasmania Parks & Wildlife Service, Tasmanian Land Conservancy, Parks Victoria, Parks Australia, IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas, James Cook University, Murdoch University and Charles Darwin University.
