Graduate Diploma of Information Technology

The Graduate Diploma of Information Technology course is concerned with the accumulation of theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to the design, construction, operation, support and maintenance of information technology (IT) solutions. This course will provide students with entry-level skills and introduces techniques used in the design and construction of IT solutions, as well as the research skills needed to assess the effectiveness of a solution or technology. Students will gain specialist skills and become capable of working with information technology solutions at an entry level. This course provides graduates with knowledge and skills allowing them to seek professional work in field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), and as a pathway for research and further learning. The Graduate Diploma of Information Technology provides graduates from non-IT backgrounds a path to seek a career in IT. On successful completion of the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology, students may progress to the Master of Information Technology, and will be given full credit for the units completed. The Graduate Diploma of Information Technology is currently pending an update. Once approved applications will reopen for 2020 intake.

Graduate Diploma of Forensic Mental Health Nursing

The Graduate Certificate in Forensic Mental Health Nursing (GC-FMHN) and the Graduate Diploma of Forensic Mental Health Nursing form part of the broad suite of courses in forensic psychology and forensic mental health at Swinburne University of Technology. In particular, the units in the diploma form part of the subjects that lead to the Master of Forensic Behavioural Science (MA-FBS). Graduates will acquire in-depth knowledge and skills required to work effectively in forensic mental health nursing, including an understanding of legal and correctional systems, advanced instruction in the complex systemic and individual mental health factors that influence offending behaviour, and how to work effectively with challenging patients and behaviours. This course is offered through the Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science at Swinburne, in collaboration with the Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health (Forensicare).

Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning

Help clients reach their financial goals and be part of Australia’s fast-growing financial planning industry with Swinburne’s Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning. Designed for both new and already practising financial planners. This course provides knowledge and understanding of crucial industry regulations, ethical principles and standards of professional practice in financial services. It will also develop your knowledge and skills to provide tailored and professional financial advice. You’ll use latest financial planning software (XPLAN) which is embedded throughout the course, and engage with industry through site visits, annual roadshows and guest speakers. This course is accredited by the Financial Planning Education Council (FPEC). Students are eligible to apply for membership to the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) and to apply for entry into the FPA CFP® Certification Program. This course is approved by the Financial Advisers Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA). FASEA was established by the Australian government to set the education, training and ethical standards of licensed financial advisers in Australia. A FASEA approved degree is mandatory in order to practice as a financial planner or advisor in Australia.

The Graduate Diploma of Forensic Behavioural Science will enable graduates to work effectively in the widest range of forensic environments and with the widest range of forensic populations and to deal with complex and challenging issues in an autonomous manner. Professionals who work in forensic mental health/behavioural science contexts, or with forensic populations (such as offenders) require specialised skills. The Graduate Diploma of Forensic Behavioural Science is designed to provide advanced training to enable a range of professionals to work effectively and independently within forensic settings. Graduates will acquire in-depth knowledge and skills in various aspects of forensic behavioural science, including legal and correctional system functioning, fundamentals of violence risk assessment and management, and comprehensive understanding of complex systemic, individual and mental health factors that influence offending behaviour. This course is offered through the Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science at Swinburne, in collaboration with the Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health (Forensicare). Note: This course is available to local students and off-shore international students who are studying in a country other than Australia; this course is not available to on-shore international students on a student visa.
