Bachelor of Social Work (Honours)

This honours degree provides you with advanced knowledge of the political, behavioural and social sciences. On completion, you may be eligible to further your qualification with postgraduate study, including doctoral study. The focus of this degree is on the following four major areas of study: social work theory social work practice and skills social policy social research You will also gain practical experience as part of the degree’s field education placement component. This is a valuable learning opportunity where you will build industry networks and further enhance practical skills. Further hands-on experience is gained in our state-of-the-art Social Work Studios, where you will take part in simulated, real-life situations. These studios are an important part of your learning and provide a dedicated space where you can practice your skills. What you'll need All students studying this degree will be required to complete criminal history screening through the Department of Communities and Social Inclusion prior to being accepted for work placements. The clearance is valid for three years and can take up to eight weeks to be processed. You must also hold a current Child Safe Environments Certificate. Some placements may also require a current driver's licence and a recognised First Aid Certificate.

Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) (Cognitive Neuroscience)

Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Honours) (Whyalla)

You will graduate skilled, confident and ready to pursue your teaching career in early childhood or primary education (birth to 8 years of age). This industry-relevant degree is a four-year professional degree solely focused on teaching, that will equip you with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge to thrive as a contemporary educator in childcare, pre-school, and junior primary settings. The curriculum is practical in nature and you will begin work placements during your first six months. This focus on industry experience will continue throughout your studies, and on graduation you will have completed 110 days of field-based placements. You will also develop an in-depth understanding of the principles and concepts relating to early childhood development and learning, as well as leadership and advocacy in matters relating to early childhood. The primary specialisms available externally include Arts, English and Mathematics/Science. The initial teacher education qualification for the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Honours) meets the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia (the Board) qualification requirements for the purpose of teacher registration in South Australia and the requirements of the national approach to the Accreditation of Initial Teacher Education Programs in Australia.

This unique double degree will prepare you to work as a human services professional and develop services and support those that experience disadvantage, personal and social difficulties. The human services field is a rapidly growing sector of the Australian economy and an emerging area of global focus. Employers, both in Australia and internationally, are increasingly seeking skilled human service practitioners who are culturally and linguistically diverse. Graduates with a strong command of professional English, social policy skills, strong intercultural communication skills, and proficiency in a second language are in high demand. You will graduate with skills in research, policy and project management, tailored to your area of interest based on your choice of arts majors, choosing from Languages (English Language; French, Italian or Japanese Studies); Sociology; or Linguistics. Through 560 hours of supervised work placement you will be ready to work in a wide range of jobs in human services and community development. Language students will also be given the opportunity to immerse yourself in your chosen language and culture through our exchange and in-country study programs. Many courses within the degree are offered online or in intensive mode, including our exciting summer and winter schools, offering students a flexible mode of study. If you finish your degree with a credit or higher Grade Point Average (GPA) you could also be eligible for the prestigious one-year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree.
