B-EDEC v.2 Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education)

This course is designed for people seeking to attain an Initial Teacher Education qualification in order to register as a teacher in Australia and any other countries that recognise an Australian teaching qualification. Specifically, this course provides a qualification for those intending to teach at the early childhood level of education from birth to eight years. Students will develop advanced critical skills, knowledge and understanding concerning best practice in education and in meeting the needs of children. Students will have four opportunities to engage in professional experience in schools, culminating in a final professional placement of 10 continuous weeks. Initial Teacher Education courses in Australia are accredited by the relevant authority in the state or territory in which the institution providing the qualification is based. Accordingly, the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) course provided by Curtin University is fully accredited by the Teachers’ Registration Board of WA (TRBWA) and graduates of the course are able to register as practising teachers with the registration body in their home state or territory, based on the course accreditation provided by the TRBWA. The course is also recognised by the Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) as an approved early childhood teacher qualification. Course Accreditation Status This course is accredited by the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA). As such, it is also recognised as an accredited initial teacher education program by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL). The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) is also recognised by the Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) as an approved early childhood teacher qualification. Graduates of this degree will have the skills, knowledge and experience required to teach in early childhood education and care settings. Upon graduating with this degree you will be qualified to teach children from birth to eight years of age. B-DESIGN v.3 Bachelor of Design

Bachelor Degrees prepare students to develop broad and coherent knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 7 qualifications. This course offers students the opportunity to study one Design discipline from a range of majors and at least one Design minor. Additionally, students have the option of choosing a second minor from a selection of recommended minors or choosing a selection of units from throughout the university. The first year of the course enables students to choose foundation units suitable to their desired minor area(s) of study and also begin study in their chosen major. B-COMP v.1 Bachelor of Computing

This course provides a coverage of aspects modern computing, depending on the major chosen. It covers fundamental programming and theoretical knowledge followed by an opportunity to specialise in one of the three key computing streams: Computer Science, Cyber Security and Software Engineering. Curtin's Computing course teaches C and Java in the first year as the tools for learning core concepts such as object orientation and algorithms. Linux skills are taught throughout the course and emphasis is placed on learning the basics before moving onto advanced topics. The graduates from the course will have a high level of knowledge of computer systems and processes involved in software development and maintenance. The aim of this major is to prepare the students for the areas of ICT stated to be most in demand and for positions that are most difficult to fill. On completion of the three year degree, students who have performed well will be eligible to complete an extra year of study to obtain an honours qualification, BH-SCNCE Bachelor of Science (Honours). The research focus of an Honours degree provides a pathway for career advancement at a higher level than the base degree. Students who perform well in the first year of this course can apply for transfer to the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Computing) course, although acceptance is not automatic. B-ARCH v.2 Bachelor of Applied Science (Architectural Science)

Bachelor Degrees prepare students to develop broad and coherent knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 7 qualifications. This course is the prerequisite for entry into the Master of Architecture. The course covers the design of buildings, the technical aspects of building construction, and how architecture relates to societies, cultures and people and the way they live. Architectural ideas are communicated through written and spoken reports, photographs, drawings, models and the electronic media. Students not intending to continue on to the Master may use the knowledge gained in this course to seek employment within the architectural profession or building industry. Professional Recognition This course does not qualify the holder for registration as an architect or for Associate Membership of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. The educational qualifications required for registration are obtained through successful completion of the Master of Architecture course, for which this course is a prerequisite.
