Bachelor of Education Secondary Teaching (Humanities and Social Science)

Students can select a second teaching area from a range of specialist electives to suit their interests. The education studies component is practice focused with students undertaking professional experience in schools and other learning sites generally from the second semester of their course. Students are also encouraged to undertake field/professional experience in remote schools. External students can normally complete their professional experience in their home towns. Indigenous perspectives are a particular focus, and students can undertake studies in Indigenous languages and literacy as well as examining specific strategies for enhancing educational outcomes for Indigenous children. Bachelor of Education (Primary Teaching)

Students enrolled in the BEDP will be able to continue to re-enrol however consideration should always be given to transferring to the latest course version. *** This course prepares students to be teachers in primary schools (transition to year 7). It meets both national and local need for teachers of exemplary practice committed to enhancing educational outcomes for all children and young adults. It emphasises improving the teaching-learning relationship in the classroom, raising awareness of issues surrounding Indigenous education and developing an informed, evidence-based approach to learning and teaching in primary settings. The course comprises discipline-specific curriculum and pedagogical studies, general education studies and professional experience. The course is both theoretical and practical, providing a sound knowledge base in the core content areas of the school curriculum, knowledge of contemporary approaches to issues in education such as inclusivity, child and adolescent development, and promoting positive behaviour, and extensive experience in school settings. Indigenous perspectives are a particular focus, with all students expected to examine specific strategies for enhancing educational outcomes for Indigenous children. Bachelor of Education (Graduate Entry)

The Bachelor of Education (Graduate Entry) is a teacher education course that aligns with the Australian Professional Standards for Graduating Teachers. This two-year course offers specialised professional knowledge and skills in teacher education for those who have a non-education Bachelor degree. The program is designed to develop professional knowledge and skills to prepare students for new and changing educational roles as educators; to develop reflective practitioner skills; to ensure continuing awareness of the environmental and cultural influences on teaching and learning, and to better understand the needs of learners and communities with diverse linguistic and cultural orientations, including Indigenous learners. Graduates of this course will possess levels of personal literacy and numeracy broadly equivalent to the top 30% of the population. Primary teaching stream offers primary specialisations in subject areas. Applicants can apply for one of three educational streams: early childhood/primary teaching, primary teaching and secondary teaching. The early childhood and primary teaching stream has an early childhood focus yet is designed to allow graduands the flexibility for teaching in either early childhood or primary school settings. This course will also be suited to those who are seeking to upgrade their teaching qualifications in either early childhood, primary or secondary school teaching. This course is open to school leavers or higher education students who have studied for no more than one year and hold year 12 qualifications to study the Flinders University Doctor of Medicine (MD) taught in the Northern Territory. The Bachelor of Clinical Sciences (BCSC) is the first award of a double degree with Flinders University's MD and, providing you meet the criteria for entry, guarantees entry into the Flinders University MD in the third year. You will develop a solid foundation in the fundamental health and medical-related sciences, building your knowledge, skills and confidence to move onto the Flinders MD. Completing the first year of the Flinders MD, which is also the third and final year of the BCSC, will give you the Bachelor of Clinical Sciences. This course is part of a double degree with the Doctor of Medicine (MD) through Flinders University and is accredited by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) as an entry pathway into medicine.

This combined degree course provides students with the opportunity to major in a commerce program in conjunction with legal studies with a view to satisfying the academic requirements for admission into the legal profession and, depending on the specialization completed in the commerce program, possibly the accounting profession. The Law course aims to provide knowledge of the legal system and legal principles, and to cultivate a capacity for legal research, analysis and communication. The course also deals with theoretical perspectives on the law and encourages an appreciation of legal issues of special significance to the Northern Territory, including Aboriginal legal issues. The Commerce course caters for individuals working in or intending to work in commerce or government in fields such as economics, accounting, management, human resources, or marketing. It is of particular relevance to Australian or international students seeking membership of Australian professional bodies in these or related fields. The program provides students with the career and professional skills needed in a rapidly changing business environment. It allows for flexibility of study and prepares students for careers in a variety of business fields. In addition, communication, presentation and problem-solving skills are emphasised. After completing the equivalent of one year full time study, students will have the option of transferring from the Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws into the Bachelor of Accounting/Bachelor of Laws, which directly addresses the requirements for membership of CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. However, it is possible to satisfy the entry requirements of the two major Australian accounting professional bodies by the selection of appropriate units in the Bachelor of Commerce. Graduates of this combined degree are awarded both the Bachelor of Commerce and the Bachelor of Laws.

The program provides students with the career and professional skills needed in a rapidly changing business environment. It allows for flexibility of study and prepares students for careers in a variety of business fields. In addition, communication, presentation and problem-solving skills are emphasised. The primary aim of the law course is to provide a legal education for the practice of law. In that context, the course aims to provide knowledge of the legal system and legal principles, and to cultivate a capacity for legal research, analysis and communication. The course also provides international and theoretical perspectives on the law and encourages an appreciation of legal issues of special significance to the Northern Territory, including Aboriginal legal issues. Graduates of law are not restricted to a career as a solicitor or barrister, if that is not their ambition. A law degree opens up career options in diverse areas, including in-house counsel of private and public institutions, in teaching, industrial relations, the military, police services, politics, human rights, customs, immigration an in any public or private sector employment where an in-depth understanding of the law is an advantage. Graduates of this combined degree are awarded both the Bachelor of Commerce and the Bachelor of Laws.
