Graduate Certificate in Research

The Graduate Certificate in Research has been introduced by the University to assist Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates systematically acquire the skills and training they need to complete their research. The Graduate Certificate is also part of an initiative by the University to internationalise and increase the transferability of UTAS degrees, improve student experience and retention rates, and ensure the timeliness of completion of higher degrees by research.All PhD and Research Masters candidates commencing after 1 January 2011 are required to participate in the program.Please visit the Graduate Certificate in Research website for detailed information including core unit dates, managing your enrolment, applying for credit / exemptions and off schedule unit requests.

Diploma of Pharmacy Studies

This Diploma is designed primarily to serve as an entry pathway to the Bachelor of Pharmacy with Applied Honours (54A) for students who would like to study pharmacy but do not meet the pre-requisite requirements. It includes a mix of disciplinary subjects offered by the School of Medicine, units designed to prepare students for University study offered by the University College, and foundation units to enable students to develop pre-requisite knowledge offered by the College of Science and Engineering.

Graduate Certificate in Science Education

Please see E4S Bachelor of Education with Professional Honours (Science Education), Faculty of Education.Students apply and enrol in E4S but may exit with a Graduate Certificate in Science Education.The Graduate Certificate in Science Education is a professionally-oriented program which aims to update and broaden the science content knowledge of practising science teachers in upper primary, high schools and colleges, and others involved in the field of science education. The program addresses professional learning opportunities for teachers of science (covering both the life sciences and physical sciences which includes Maths and IT) by providing access to current developments in science ("hot topics") as well as examining how new topics can be introduced into the classroom curriculum.The course, which consists of four units, can be completed by part-time studies over the duration of one-year. Units will be delivered through a combination of block teaching (utilising the school vacation breaks in January and June) and on-line delivery.The Science Content units KAA501 and KAA502 will be intensively taught over a four-day period and will consist of a series of hot topics presented by Schools within the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Technology. Participants will be able to expand their knowledge base and learn about the latest in scientific information and techniques. These units will address the Science as a Body of Knowledge strand of the Tasmanian Curriculum. The 'hot topics' will be supported through explicitly linking content with the Tasmanian curriculum.ESH704 Conducting Professional Enquiry will link to the Content units and participants will relate scientific concepts from the topics covered in the Content units with the other Tasmanian Curriculum Strands; Science as a Human Endeavour; Science Inquiry and Science communication (Unit 1) and into classroom situations (Unit 2). The unit will have a pedagogical emphasis and will assist teachers inquire into and question their teaching and learning practices.KAA503 Science in Practice will develop an enquiry with the particular focus of relating scientific concepts taught in Science Content 1. The enquiry will connect teachers to working scientists, or the work of scientists to gain an insight into science practice.

Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems

The Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a professionally-orientated program that aims to build and extend skills in the rapidly evolving fields of GIS and related subject areas including satellite remote sensing. The program includes two compulsory units in GIS (Schedule A), and an additional two units to be selected from a list of eligible elective units (Schedule B) that includes units in remote sensing, photogrammetry, field measurement and mapping and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).

Associate Degree in Furniture Design

No new enrolments are being accepted into this course in 2017 until further notice.This two-year course is offered either on a full-time or part-time basis by the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology through the School of Architecture & Design. It is undertaken on campus in Inveresk, Launceston and gives graduates a foundation in the design and fabrication of furniture.

Associate Degree in Computing

There is no new intake into this degree from 2014. This degree is in teach-out. Interested applicants should look at the Associate Degree in Information and Communication Technology.The Associate Degree in Computing is a 2-year award which provides a solid foundation to the disciplines of Computing and Computer Science. Students complete 16 units with at least 10 relating specifically to IT. Some foundation units are allowed to better prepare students for bachelors degree study.The associate degree articulates to the Bachelor of Computing; with appropriate unit choices, the Bachelor of Computing degree may be completed after one additional full-time year.For more information see the introduction to the 73D Bachelor of Computing degree.
