The Specialist Certificate in IT Management (Executive) is an online coursework degree (25 credit points). The program covers areas of critical important to aspiring C-suite executives (i.e. Chief Information Officers, Chief Technology Officers, and Chief Security Officers) in information systems management and digital business. The Specialist Certificate in Glaucoma and Retinal Disease offered by the Department of Optometry & Vision Sciences in the School of Health Sciences is designed to allow optometrists to advance their capabilities in the day-to-day management of eye disease by affording them the opportunity to review the most current ideas on the pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of ocular disease affecting the back of the eye, thus also preparing them for any further shifts in the scope of optometric practice in this area. This review will include a critical examination of how the state-of-the-art diagnostic and imaging tools can be incorporated into clinical practice. Given the explosion in the literature of health sciences, the course will concentrate on developing a deep understanding in a select group of eye diseases regularly seen in optometric practice (for example, glaucoma, diabetes, age-related macular degeneration). The course will, however, provide optometrists with the tools necessary to develop a deeper, evidence-based understanding in other eye diseases of their choosing.The Specialist Certificate is achieved through successful completion of one compulsory 25 point subject, Glaucoma and Retinal Disease (formerly Management of Posterior Eye Disease).

The Specialist Certificate in Empowering Health in Aboriginal Communities introduces students to health related knowledges from critical social science and Aboriginal cultural perspectives. It will specifically examine the integration, overlap, and disjuncture of Aboriginal knowledges and Western knowledges of health in which Aboriginal health services operate (focus of the first subject). Students are then supported in the application of this learning to undertake a project within an Aboriginal community on a topic selected by the student in consultation with the community (undertaken as part of the second subject). In undertaking this course, students will gain advanced understanding of how both Aboriginal and Western knowledges can be applied to the field of health in rural communities as well as community development and project management skills.The course requires completion of two compulsory subjects delivered in a blended mode. Students attend short teaching intensive days on campus (Shepparton) totalling no more than two weeks per semester in at least two time blocks, allowing for the majority of time to be spent in community with online tutorials and other individualised supports.Graduates of the Specialist Certificate are given advanced standing into the Master of Public Health (representing 25 credit points towards that degree); as well as eligibility to progress to the Graduate Certificate in Aboriginal Health in Rural Communities.
