This course, taught through two four-day intensive subjects, is designed for professionals who work with complex and difficult offender populations, including those who have committed sexual and violent offences. It has been designed to give students the requisite knowledge about risk of reoffending, how to meet offender needs, and their effective management.The course is comprised of two subjects (an Introductory subject in June and an Advanced subject in November), both of which must be completed in order to receive the Specialist Certificate in Criminology (Offender Management).

The Specialist Certificate in Criminology (Forensic Disability) will provide an up-to-date understanding of key concepts and issues, including theoretical and practical training in the assessment (including risk assessment) and management of forensic disability populations, and the complex professional and ethical issues encountered when working with this needy and challenging group.

The Specialist Certificate in Creativity and Health is designed to equip students to understand and use performance to improve the health and well‐being for children and young people who are engaged with a range of health services. It is open to professionals who work within health settings and want to use performance with children and young people who interact with the primary, secondary and tertiary health services. It will provide foundational knowledge on theories of performance, child and adolescent development and how to work within both interdisciplinary settings. Case studies will be used to illustrate best practice in the field, and students will have the opportunity to develop their own program as part of the course.The course requires completion two 12.5 credit point subjects. The course is provided entirely online providing flexibility to design study times around other commitments and study preferences. This course is designed to be available to professionals at different stages in their careers, including recent graduates, established practitioners and those seeking to move in new directions.

The Specialist Certificate in Cancer Sciences gives students an introduction to cancer science, research and care. It utilises a contemporary, evidence-based program for clinicians and scientists to improve the outcomes and experiences of cancer patients.The Specialist Certificate is a 25-point program that can be completed either over 3 months full-time, or 6 months, part-time. Students will be required to undertake one core subject covering the Foundations of Cancer. They will then choose an additional subject from the elective suite, which covers a wide range of topics relevant to the oncological workforce.The Cancer Sciences suite has been developed and presented by leading clinicians and researchers from the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC). Designed to broaden the skills of medical practitioners, pharmacists, nurses, allied health practitioners and scientists; this program will hone transferrable knowledge and skills to improve clinical research, education and care.

The Specialist Certificate in Cancer Nursing is delivered by cancer nursing clinical experts and educators. This course provides students with the beginning scientific and theoretical knowledge related to cancer control and patient-family centered care.As a student of this course you will complete two wholly online core subjects: Applied Pathophysiology and the Foundations of Cancer Nursing. This course is completed part-time of six months duration.This course is suitable for nurses who are new to practising in cancer care services and as an entry pathway to the Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing.

The Specialist Certificate in Clinical Leadership (SCCL) provides clinicians with the leadership skills they need to improve their organisations, develop and implement change initiatives, and promote treatment quality and safety excellence within healthcare settings. The philosophy of the SCCL is to provide a contemporary, evidence-based program to health professionals to improve outcomes for their organisations, colleagues and patients. The program is targeted towards clinicians—including doctors, nurses, dentists and allied health professionals—who currently hold, or anticipate holding, leadership positions.This offering allows for the development of leadership skills required by the clinical work context. This is not a generic leadership program; it is embedded within the clinical context, taught largely by clinicians, and focused on clinical issues and challenges. Clinicians will be transformed as leaders alongside other clinicians who will share their experiences and enhance each other’s learning. Clinicians who gain the University of Melbourne SCCL will be valued for their commitment to clinical leadership and their acquisition of skills that allow for the effective leadership of health organisations.The SCCL comprises two core subjects: 1) Leadership in the Clinical Setting and 2) Leading Healthcare Change for Impact. Course delivery will be through a combination of face-to-face intensive periods of teaching, supported by on-line resources. Assessments will be oriented towards outcomes that demonstrate the learning of leadership best practice within the clinical setting, and the ability to apply this learning to the clinical workplace.

The Specialist Certificate in Critical Care Nursing provides students with a sound understanding of current theoretical knowledge and scientific advances that underpin care the care and management of people requiring specialist level nursing care in critical care settings, including emergency and intensive care.Students will gain essential knowledge required to understand core concepts relating to acute illnesses, diseases and trauma in critical care services, as well as gain skills in critiquing evidence‐based guidelines for the care management of patients and their families in these critical care settings.The course is offered wholly online, part‐time over six months.

The Specialist Certificate in Biotechnology (Enterprise) is designed to produce leaders in the exciting and ever-growing sectors of this vibrant industry. Biotechnology is the useful application of a biological product or process and represents an immense opportunity to improve the health, nutrition and well-being of the global population as well as make substantial contributions to the triple bottom line of companies in the area of sustainability and social good. The subjects proposed for this course adopt an interdisciplinary, international and holistic approach to respond to the complex and growing challenges of the emergence of new technologies such as cell therapies, gene editing and the intersection of engineering and biosciences. This is amongst the first course of its kind and deals with specific features of biotechnology as an enterprise which, when these features are combined make it very different to other industries. Students have the option of first enrolling in the Specialist Certificate (25 points of study) then the Graduate Certificate (additional 25 points of study to total 50 points of study).This course is designed to be available to students at different stages in their careers, including career changers and career enhancers, along with those who currently work in a biotechnology-related sector and wish to further their qualifications. This course allows students to obtain core knowledge to underpin the working understanding of this significant industry sector. The approach taken is one which will broaden the view of those already working in biotechnology enterprises and allow them to assume wider management/leadership responsibilities or it will enable those working in the life sciences sectors to move into a biotechnology related role.

The Specialist Certificate in Ageing (SC-AGEING) is a nested award within the Master of Ageing course. The SC-AGEING is available to students wishing to take 25 credit points within the Master of Ageing coursework.The SC-AGEING requires completion of two subjects (25 points) and is structured to suit individual needs and study preferences.The SC-AGEING will not offer the opportunity to pursue the capstone subjects offered in the full 150 points Master of Ageing course. There is no advanced standing offered in the SC-AGEING. Hence, all students must complete 25 points of study to be awarded the SC-AGEING.
