The Bachelor of Mathematics is a three-year program catering to high-achieving students seeking to develop a comprehensive specialised knowledge in a field of mathematics or a high level of sophistication in the applications of mathematics. Mathematics is one of the most enduring fields of study and has consistently been proven as essential in an expanding number of disciplines and professions. Modern computation, advances in scientific technology and the increasing production of data have all increased the scope for applications of mathematics well beyond the traditional areas of engineering and the physical sciences, to include fields such as finance, economics, information technology and molecular biology. Agribusiness/Wildlife Science

The dual four-year program allows you to combine practical business skills with your interests in wildlife science. In the Wildlife Science component you will focus on animal biology, wildlife management and the emerging issues associated with human-wildlife interactions. In this degree you will develop a deep scientific knowledge of wildlife anatomy and physiology, captive breeding, reproduction, nutrition, health, husbandry, ecology, welfare and behaviour. The agribusiness component of the program will prepare you for business management positions in industries which demand graduates who are consumer focused, commercially aware, innovative, internationally orientated and technically competent. You will learn about marketing, finance and managing people and technology along the agrifood value chain. You will study business courses in accounting, economics, and market research in an agribusiness context. Students will complete courses at both the St Lucia (Brisbane) and Gatton campuses.

In the equine science component of the program you will study the nutrition, reproduction, exercise physiology, health and rehabilitation, welfare and behaviour of horses and explore the interaction of horse and rider. This scientific knowledge is then applied to an industry setting to improve the management, performance and welfare of leisure horses and equine athletes. The study of equine science will give you exposure to the scientific and practical aspects of the horse industry. Wildlife Science

Wildlife Science at UQ Gatton focuses on whole animal biology and the management of wild animals, including their ecology and conservation. As a wildlife scientist you will study native and exotic amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals in their natural or man-made environments, their biodiversity, and the emerging issues associated with human-wildlife interactions. Students will gain the ability to implement and evaluate wildlife management programs for captive and free-ranging wildlife. In this degree you will develop a deep scientific knowledge of wildlife anatomy and physiology, captive breeding, reproduction, nutrition, health, husbandry, ecology, welfare and behaviour. With excellent wildlife trapping, identification and animal handling skills, you will be able to make a major contribution to the wildlife, game and vertebrate pest management industries in Australia.

Veterinary Technology

Do you have a passion to work in Animal Health and Welfare? In the Bachelor of Veterinary Technology you will study animal handling, welfare and behaviour, clinical aspects of small and large animal health, veterinary surgical nursing principles, and veterinary practice management. As a veterinary technology student you will gain skills in routine laboratory and clinical support procedures including: veterinary radiography and diagnostic practices; anaesthesia; surgery; clinical pathology and pharmacology; nutrition; veterinary therapeutics; and animal reproduction. Students will also develop knowledge and professional skills in animal management, technology and welfare that can be used beyond the clinical setting, e.g. in the regulatory, industry, academic sectors.

Equine Science
University of Queensland
In this program you will study the nutrition, reproduction, exercise physiology, health and rehabilitation, welfare and behaviour of horses. This scientific knowledge is then applied to an industry setting to improve the management, performance and welfare of leisure horses and equine athletes. The study of Equine Science will give you exposure to the scientific and practical aspects of the horse industry and related social and community issues. As you progress through the program, you can choose from a range of electives, including agribusiness, biosecurity, pasture and production courses. You will have access to UQ's world class Equine Precinct, including equitation arenas, breeding and horse-handling facilities, day yards and stabling amenities.
