Social Work (Honours)

Social Workers build relationships with individuals, groups and communities and advocate by being in the space between an individual and the broader community. Their mission is to help and empower people to overcome particular problems, and to champion the rights of disadvantaged groups to create a fairer, more inclusive society. This program combines core knowledge and skills in social work, social policy and research. During your program you'll learn about social work and the law, human development, professional ethics, and the principles and ideas that guide social workers.

Regional and Town Planning (Honours)

Regional and town planning assists communities, companies and Governments to integrate the environmental, economic and social aspects of development from site, up to regional scales. It covers land-use planning, urban design, transport and infrastructure planning, use and extension of information technology, heritage and conservation, resource management, environmental monitoring, planning law and practice, commercial and industrial development, and policy making and implementation. Planning deals with strategic work (long-range planning) as well as structural and statutory components. The latter include the current development of the built and natural environments and the legislative framework controlling land use. Accordingly, planning is closely allied with commerce, economics, Government, sociology and the ecology disciplines. To be eligible for admission to the program, an applicant must have completed years 1 to 3 of the Bachelor of Regional and Town Planning.

Education (Primary) (Honours)

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours) is a pre-service teacher qualification designed for effective teacher preparation in the unique contemporary context. The program develops capacities required by teachers working in the information age, a time of rapid change where education is recognised as playing an increasingly important role in society. The program develops teachers across prep to year 6, spanning the Early and Middle Phases of Learning. In particular, the program focuses on the development of skills, understandings and attributes that enable graduates to demonstrate specialist abilities with respect to: Literacy and numeracy Diversity and differentiated learning Leadership and research Connected practicum

Psychological Science (Honours)

These kinds of questions are explored in the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours), which examines the complexity, intricacy and wonder of the human mind. This program is designed for students looking to undertake comprehensive studies in psychology, including the study of developmental, social, cognitive, biological, physiological and abnormal psychology. Students are taught how to understand the ways people behave, think and feel, and provided with important skills so to enable them to progress to further study, or enter the workforce with confidence. Semester 2 commencement is available to eligible international students with advanced standing of 8 units (4 courses) or more.

Veterinary Science (Honours)

The Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours) is the University of Queensland's registrable degree program that allows graduates to practise as a veterinarian. Coursework and placement training provide graduates with the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to apply medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic principles to companion, domestic, exotic, wildlife, and production animals. Veterinary science is vital to the study and protection of animal health and welfare. It requires the acquisition and application of scientific knowledge in multiple disciplines and therefore also offers a high quality biomedical training that can be applicable to non-clinical careers, including research. Veterinarians also play vital roles in protecting human and ecosystems health through principles of One Health practice. Training in trans-boundary diseases and population health are similarly essential to promoting animal productivity and associated industries, and food security. Prospective students are encouraged to read about the Inherent Requirements expected of a veterinarian and of veterinary students.

Environmental Management (Honours)

The Bachelor of Environmental Management (Honours) program prepares you to manage many of the environmental challenges faced by modern society both locally and globally, as we address fundamental issues of sustainability. The program bridges the gap between science and management, incorporating fundamental biophysical science with social science and multidisciplinary skills in environmental management, decision making and policy analysis. The final year focusses on integrating and applying research and core knowledge skills acquired in the first three years. You will develop your ability to manage complex real-world problems that affect a range of environments, from natural through to urban and industrial settings. Students with an adequate GPA from the first 3 years of study may elect to undertake an individual research thesis in their fourth year, or opt to undertake the industry placement project. Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Environmental Management (Honours) prior to 2019 should refer to the 2018 Program information.

Biotechnology (Honours)

Biotechnology applies scientific and engineering principles to living organisms in order to produce products and services of value to society. It is used in processes ranging from cheese production, brewing, and wastewater management, through to drug design and gene therapy. This program examines microorganisms, plants and animals in the context of the discovery, understanding, improvement and development of viable products or activities. The discipline combines elements from many areas such as molecular genetics, microbiology, immunology, physics, chemistry, engineering and mathematics. This program has been revised from 2021. Students who commenced in the program from 2021 should refer to the: Bachelor of Biotechnology — 2456, or Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours) — 2457. Pharmacy (Honours)

This program will prepare you for a distinguished career in industry, community, hospital pharmacy or government. You will learn at the state-of-the-art Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence (PACE) - a world-class, $100 million teaching and research facility located in UQ's biomedical science precinct at Woolloongabba. You will be confident and job ready upon graduating with extensive experience in the six simulated pharmacies, as well as an eight week final year placement.

Health, Sport and Physical Education (Honours)

This program will prepare you to teach young people about the importance of being healthy and the fun of participating in sports and physical activities. Exercise and Sport Sciences (Honours)

This program will ignite your interest in the complexities of maintaining an active, healthy human body and allow you to make a vital contribution to wellbeing, rehabilitation and performance. This program focuses on understanding how to enhance human performance, how the body responds to exercise and physical activity, and how to conduct research which could help build healthier communities and stronger athletes. As a graduate you will be eligible for professional membership and accreditation with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) as an Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES). Students who complete practicum under approved supervision will meet all requirements for accreditation as a Level 1 Sport Scientist (ASpS)*. You will study at one of the best human movement and nutrition sciences schools in Australia, known around the world for its research and expert staff. You will also have access to the latest industry equipment in the School's own specialist biomechanics, motor control, exercise physiology and strength conditioning laboratories and health clinics, and UQ's Olympic-standard recreational and sporting facilities. *Graduates will also be required to address the Level 1 ASpS Professional Standards (Standards 1 to 6) to fulfil accreditation requirements.
