Graduate Certificate in Yolngu Studies

Applications for this course in Semester 2 2020 have closed as at 16 June 2020. You will be introduced to the life and languages of the Yolngu people in north east Arnhem Land gaining invaluable insight into the complexity of Indigenous societies found elsewhere in Australia. This course concentrates on Yolngu Matha (Yolngu language) forms of Dhuwala, and you will learn the everyday conversation version of the language, building on grammar and basic vocabulary, which will help if you decide to continue learning other Yolngu languages. Key areas you will also explore are Moiety systems, various aspects of kinship, Yolngu life, creation stories, songs, art and ceremonies and how they are related. Higher Education Relief Package Charles Darwin University is offering this Graduate Certificate as part of the suite of university short courses subsidised by the Commonwealth Government. The discounted fees only apply to new student course enrolments in Semester 2, 2020. To be eligible you must study full time and complete all 4 units by December 2020. Future enrolments (2021) will be charged at the standard rate, without a discount.
