Mineral Resources

This program enables graduates to obtain an advanced knowledge in specialist plans related to the minerals industry. Students gain analytical skills that enable critical assessment of alternative solutions to complex industry problems. Graduates are equipped with an understanding of particular sections of the industry, and focus on investigating and resolving design and operational problems in a safe and efficient manner. The Master of Mineral Resources provides professional postgraduate education in areas that impact directly upon the efficient technical, scientific and commercial management of the minerals industry.

Magnetic Resonance Technology (24 units)

University of Queensland

This program allows students with some experience in magnetic resonance to acquire advanced knowledge. Students are trained in new techniques which are not yet part of standard clinical practice. Students will be in a position to embark on projects that make innovative use of magnetic resonance; to assess the impact of such innovation on the clinical utility of the modality; and to assess the needs of a radiography practice, and the ability of equipment from various manufacturers to meet these needs. The program consists of core courses, electives and a research component. For students studying via flexible delivery, access to a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner is required for the research component of this program.

International Economics and Finance (24 units)

This program advances understanding of economics across business and the public sector. Students develop specialised knowledge of the extensive implications and opportunities arising from the process of international economic and financial integration. The program is founded upon a platform of microeconomics, macroeconomics and statistics, and shows how economic principles may be applied to issues in the international economy. Electives enable students to focus on their specific needs and interests. Graduates of this program possess a qualification with critical skills and competencies required in commercial enterprises; financial and investment operations; government departments; and development-related organisations. This qualification positions working professionals for advancement.

Public Health

This program introduces health professionals from a range of backgrounds to the key elements of public health. It allows them to explore population perspectives on health and disease, and health systems responses to these. It introduces the necessary skills for analysing the patterns of disease in populations, their determinants and associated factors and provides an overview of behaviours that contribute to disease in the community, and the development and implementation of appropriate interventions.

Geographic Information Science (24 units)

The postgraduate programs in Geographic Information Science produce high-quality graduates with both technical and research skills in advanced areas of geographic information science. Graduates are competent in basic and advanced computing skills especially in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software; various GIS and remote sensing operations; and implementation and management of GIS projects. The program also covers applications of GIS and remote sensing technologies to various areas; resource analysis through remote sensing and airphoto interpretation; expert systems and decision support systems; and research, both applied and theoretical, in the field of spatial information systems.

Environmental Management (24 units)

Environmental Management is the planning and implementation of actions geared to improve the quality of the human environment. The postgraduate programs in environmental management at the University of Queensland are multidisciplinary programs designed to enhance the skills and technical expertise of graduates working in all facets of the environmental arena. The programs aim to produce managers able to address the many issues in the highly complex and changing area of environmental management. Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements for this program may apply for the 32 unit Master of Environmental Management program. Students enrolled in the Master of Environmental Management prior to 2019 should refer to the 2018 Program information.

Educational Studies (24 units)

This program provides advanced professionally oriented studies for practising educators, focusing on the professional development needs and in-service requirements of teachers and administrators. Some pathways offer specific qualifications while others offer significant professional advantage to educators interested in career advancement or broadening career options. Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) are available for Australian citizens, permanent visa holders, and New Zealand citizens for students enrolling in the field of Guidance, Counseling and Careers. Please note that places are limited and allocated on the basis of academic merit. If you are a commencing student and have nominated this field of study in your application, you will be contacted by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in the first weeks of semester, regarding whether you have been successful in gaining a CSP place. If you have not nominated this field, but intend to or you are an existing student wanting to change fields, please contact the Faculty via UQ Answers , then click on "Send us your question" prior to the commencement of semester in order to be considered for a CSP place.

Commerce (24 units)

The Master of Commerce is designed for current managers seeking formal qualifications in finance or those seeking to move into senior management. This program will help you to further develop your finance & management skills, & build specialist knowledge within your chosen area. The Master of Commerce program offers two different entry points depending on your previous studies. The Master (1.5 years) is designed for those graduates with a Bachelor's degree in the same discipline. The Master (2 years) includes the core fundamentals of general management for those graduates with a Bachelor's degree from any discipline. Both Masters provide an opportunity for two fields of study or additional research electives. You can choose to specialise in the areas of applied finance, information systems or professional accounting. This program does not presume prior knowledge or training in any of the available fields of study. Students who have studied in a cognate area should carefully consider how each field of study extends their specialist expertise and supports their future career plan. Some exceptions may apply to the Professional Accounting field of study.

Clinical Psychology

Clinical psychologists promote optimal levels of psychological functioning to decrease levels of psychological distress. They have expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of a broad range of emotional and behavioural problems including anxiety, depression, stress, substance addiction and abuse, adjustment to physical illness, relationship difficulties and learning disabilities. This program provides knowledge and professional skills in the area of clinical psychology through a combination of coursework, supervised practice, and research.
