Students can extend their knowledge in their chosen field or develop an understanding of specialised fields in which they have little previous knowledge. In 2014 the Financial Mathematics major in the Master of Science was replaced with the Master of Financial Mathematics. Community Development
University of Queensland
Community development is a dynamic and growing field of practice used within all levels of government and across many departments (health, communities, aging, housing, disabilities, multicultural, indigenous). Community development also plays a vital role in volunteer and not-for-profit organisations in addition to having an emergent role in private enterprise such as the financial sector (e.g. community banking) and urban development. This program is a one year part-time program that equips students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to become either a community development practitioner or integrate community development practice into other professional fields. The program provides a suite of courses that integrate theory and practice in local and international settings and focuses on personal and social change.
Pharmaceutical Industry Practice

Students will gain insight into contemporary industry practice. Students can study ethics, governance, regulatory, business, health economics, drug design and formulation, manufacturing and packaging, clinical drug development including safety (pharmacovigilance) and biometrics from preclinical (animal research) to post-registration. Courses on project management and commercialisation in the pharmaceutical industry will develop business acumen and the ability to work in global teams across various disciplines.
Speech Pathology Studies

Speech Pathology focuses on the management of communication and/or swallowing difficulties. Communication problems can occur in the areas of speech, language, voice, fluency (stuttering), hearing or literacy. A speech pathologist assists people of all ages, from children to adults, who present with communication problems due to developmental delays, disease or injury such as stroke, hearing loss, traumatic brain injury, and intellectual disability. They also work with clients who have feeding or swallowing problems. Public Health (24 units)

This program prepares health professionals from a broad range of backgrounds and disciplines to define, critically assess and resolve public health and nutrition problems. Students can undertake this program in a variety of fields- refer to the links under "What you can study" below for further details. Students may complete the program entirely by coursework or may incorporate a project, or in certain instances a dissertation. Projects and dissertaions may be completed within Australia or overseas. Any expenses incurred in undertaking the dissertation/project are the responsibility of the student. The Master of Public Health program is the first in Asia Pacific to have achieved Curriculum Validation from the Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA), one of the world's leading accrediting bodies for MPH programs. This validation confirms that the curriculum adheres to European standards for a modern comprehensive degree and contains the basic structure and core content expected from a Master of Public Health. Summer Semester entry is available to domestic students only as course offerings are limited in that semester.
Physiotherapy

Choose the Master of Physiotherapy if you are a physiotherapist wanting to gain advanced skills in musculoskeletal physiotherapy or sports physiotherapy. The first stage of the program can be completed online for clinical physiotherapists working in various fields of special interest. You will gain in depth knowledge and advanced clinical skills, as well as broaden your clinical skills across the field of practice and the ability to critically evaluate and contribute to research in your preferred area of clinical specialty. You can also obtain a second masters degree in the alternate area (either musculoskeletal or sports physiotherapy) through an additional semester of full-time coursework.
Arts in Japanese Interpreting and Translation

This is a professional program providing training for students with very high levels of competence in the Japanese and English languages as specialised translators and conference interpreters. It covers four broad, interlinked areas of study: theoretical and practical training in interpreting techniques; theoretical and practical training in translation techniques; training in ancillary skills such as public speaking and job-specific research; and training in professional areas such as ethics and business skills. This program is also listed on the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) Schools Directory, which only features training programs that meet their training criteria.
Organisational Psychology

This program prepares students for organisational psychology practice, focusing on building skills such as critical analysis, problem solving, communication, consultation and organisational change skills. Organisational psychology seeks knowledge of behaviour in organisational settings by systematically studying individual, group and organisational processes. Organisational psychology employs a 'scientist-practitioner' method of enquiry, first to seek understanding of behaviour within employment contexts, and then to develop techniques and skills which foster employee well-being and organisational effectiveness.
Molecular Biology (24 units)

Molecular biology is the study of the structure and function of genes and the proteins they encode, including genome sequencing, recombinant DNA technology and macromolecular structure determination. This program provides advanced theoretical and practical training in molecular biology through lectures, workshops, extended projects and directed study. Students gain training in research methodology in molecular biology and have the opportunity to undertake major individual research.
