Our Master of Complex Systems degree will provide you with the expertise to model, analyse and design resilient technological, socioeconomic and socioecological systems, as well as develop strategies for crisis forecasting and management.Smart cities, megaprojects, power and data grids, ecosystems, communication and transport networks are all complex systems that generate rich interactions among components with interdependencies across systems.This interdependent behaviour creates challenges for designing and managing complex systems.Complex systems are composed of numerous diverse interacting parts, making them susceptible to unexpected, large-scale, and apparently uncontrollable behaviours. Small changes can generate large, amplified effects.For example, a single malfunction in a local substation can lead to cascading state-wide electricity grid failures; and the emergence of a new pathogen in a remote village can give rise to a devastating global epidemic.Our Master of Complex Systems will develop your skills in quantitative modelling and computational simulation of system dynamics, complementing your existing skills in engineering, computer science, information technology, physics, mathematics, health, biology or business.These unique skills will enable you to operate across discipline boundaries, providing key input and insights to help solve complex global challenges.As an expert in complex systems, you could pursue a career in major multinational research and development companies, government and crisis management agencies, health, construction or transport organisations.You will undertake an industry-based capstone project and have the flexibility to tailor your learning to your professional interests with the choice of four specialisations:Commonwealth Supported PlacesCommonwealth Supported Places (CSP) are available for postgraduate study for eligible domestic students. The Master of Clinical Trials (Research) is a distinctive course, targeted at medical doctors and allied health professionals, which will allow you to acquire the expertise needed to design, develop, lead and conduct clinical trials.The course is led by the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC), Australia's premier academic clinical trials research organisation and is specifically focussed on clinical trials design and research methodology and is offered via distance learning only.Graduates will gain a solid understanding of clinical trials methodologies underpinning the design of high quality studies, and the knowledge to lead, conduct and appropriately interpret the results of single and multi-centre clinical trials.This course is offered through our interactive online learning environment, giving you the flexibility to tailor your study schedule around your lifestyle.All stream specific units are online. You may find however; a couple of electives do have a face-to-face component. These can be avoided depending on your individual preferences.

With expert supervision in clinics, teaching hospitals and community settings, the course will give you the skills to work in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of psychological disorders.The MCP involves two years of full-time study. You will develop a theoretical foundation through coursework taught by leading academic staff at the University of Sydney. Then, you can put this to the test in real situations through 1200 hours of clinical placements, both in our on-campus Psychology Clinic as well as outstanding teaching hospitals like Westmead Hospital and the Children's Hospital at Westmead. Finally, your learning will be bolstered by the opportunity to specialise with a research-based project in your own are of interest.Graduates of the MCP program leave with a scientific and evidence-based approach to clinical psychology. The program’s cognitive-behavioural approach to treatment, coupled with alternative models of therapy introduced in the second year, will ensure you will have with both depth and breadth to your clinical training.The MCP is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) as a 5th and 6th year of study, and is an approved qualification for Associate Membership of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA) and the Australian Psychological Society (APS) College of Clinical Psychologists. The Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA), through APAC, also recognizes the program for the purposes of registration and for endorsement of practice in clinical psychology.
